President Donald Trump's speech to the people of the United States on December 7th, 1941.
My fellow Americans, on December 7th, 1941, a date which will live in infamy, the Japanese Nation attacked our forces in the Hawaiian Islands and other locations throughout the Pacific.
Americans need to understand that this attack is no worse than a small group of thugs exploding some firecrackers on a tugboat. There is no reason for me to ask Congress for a formal Declaration of War. There is no need to increase our armed forces or military equipment.
The problem will go away, on its own, very shortly.
