According to Christianity, Satan was banished from heaven for being envious and proud.
Does self-pride hinder spiritual growth?
I say yes!
Pride is good, I encourage a bit of pride in oneself.
Hubris, however, is ugly.
Proverbs 16:18 says, Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. I believe Satan's sin is found in a dualistic passage in Isaiah 14 that says, How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
The Bible also says:
The wicked, through the prideof his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts. Ps, 10:4
The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. Prov. 8:13
BUT:
God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble... Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you...Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. From James 4.

Granted. I don't think anybody (including you) meant to imply that hubris was the only stumbling block to, well... anything.Hubris is ugly but ...when it comes to religion or spirituality, Hubris doesn't have to be the factor that causes hindrance. Some people are actually self-conscious of certain things about themselves and become presumptuous.
Everything in moderation.Hubris is ugly but ...when it comes to religion or spirituality, Hubris doesn't have to be the factor that causes hindrance. Some people are actually self-conscious of certain things about themselves and become presumptuous.
That's the spirit.including moderation
