Prison Ministry

My Church has a program where a person in prison can request a pen pal and have that person write to him/her (women write only to women and men only to men). I have started writing to a woman in prison and she is so lonely!! I try to encourage her and stuff. She really enjoyed my first letter and wrote in big letters that she wanted me to write back.

Do you think this is a good thing? Would you do the same?

I think it is a wonderful thing myself. It helps her and it helps me get my attention off my own troubles and reminds me that I have it good.

This was one of Jesus' less ambiguous messages. Visit those in prison.

It is hard to visit someone in prison personally if you don't have an officially recognized relationship. But most anyone can correspond by mail.
I think it is quite a beautiful sentiment. Care is required, prison inmates aren't the most trustworthy people. It is easy to get carried away. But so many have been abandoned by everyone else and have little hope that anyone cares about them at all.

As long as your happy with it.

Just dont fall into a personal relationship that could ever develop into perosnal contact for you or your family, you dont need the drama that comes with these people.

We're not allowed to give any personal information and the letters are sent to the Church, where I pick them up. I am not allowed even to tell her my last name. :)
