"Prophet" Jesus

Freckled
I hate to make another "Jesus" thread but I didn't want to derail any of the others I was reading.

What makes Jesus a prophet, false or true, or was he not a prophet at all?

I think Jesus was a false prophet which is, in my mind, not much of a prophet at all. I think he was a false prophet because he predicting something that didn't happen (that is the destruction and rebuilding in three days of the Temple) and because he asked people to follow a version of G-d that is contrary to the one we already hold. If a person claims to be a prophet but his message contradicts the one we've already got, he can't be a true prophet. G-d doesn't contradict himself. (For more on distinguishing between true and false prophets in the Abrahamic tradition, you can check out Deuteronomy 13.)
Good luck on your search!

I think that he was a holy man, but not a prophet. In fact, 'prophets' aren't something that is really part of or considered important in my religion. People may be empowered by God or be an actual avatar of God but we don't call people prophets.

Why not use a reference we can all share?...and would be more likely correct.
How about Webster's?
By definition...all participants here are prophets.
But let's take it up one notch.

Prophets don't carry on as previous instructors.
They would not be prophets if they did.
Repeating what we have at hand would make a man a priest, a pastor, a reverend, a rabbi, a minister...
a man of the cloth.
Not prophet.

Prophets speak on behalf of God.
Typically they pronounce correction, and proclaim error.

As for God never contradicting Himself?
He has been known to change His mind.
I've seen the notation in the Old Testament.

Oh...and about that Temple coming up in three days.
The gospels make note...the Carpenter was speaking of His own body.

Friend sunsplash,

"Prophet" Jesus

Personal understanding is that Jesus became Christ on enlightenment as Gautama became a Buddha.
They followed a path to enlightenment which one calls *religion*. Those who wish to follow their path and attain to enlightenment are free to do so or take their own path.
Those not following any path also are taken care of by existence itself towards the same.

Jesus was a prophet. He was a prophet of the covenant of peace – but then a person can be lead to water but they cannot be made to drink. As the master of peace, Jesus called his followers disciples. Disciple has the same root meaning as discipline. Therefore Jesus prophesied that peace comes from discipline and he taught how to become disciplined in the art of peace.

I would recommend that if you desire to discipline yourself in the art of mathematics that you find a “master” of mathematics that understands the discipline of math and is capable of doing math. I would not recommend learning of math from someone that does not believe in math or has failed in the disciplines of mathematics. Likewise if you would become a master of peace seek a master of peace disciplined in the art of peace. I do not recommend learning from someone that does not believe in peace or has failed in the discipline of peace.

How do you know he 'did exist'?

I'm not saying he didn't, I am merely doubting it.
With reason.
There's another thread before your one "Did the historical Jesus exist" ?. I suggest you go and find it there..the same question being repeated so many times; And I don't like repetition.
