My morning NYT email alerted me to the following piece in the Sacramento Bee:

Kamal Harris can beat Donald Trump and prove America is ready for a female president | Opinion​

the central question posed being: "But do Americans share enough disgust over Trump this year to forget their traditional misogyny when it comes to the top job?

We can expect more than enough sexist and misogynistic attacks (here as well as elsewhere) against "DEI Harris." Let's hope that this serves only to amplify the breadth and depth of the disgust over the MAGA-Project 2025 team.

Bear in mind that Trump had been ahead of a rich white
man in the polls. Misogyny & racism don't explain that.

It's actually worse than you fear. Misogyny isn't as bad
as the possibility that a majority of voters actually want
Trump as President....not someone else...not anyone else.

I'm hoping that my giving her consideration
will result in her being worth voting for.

I can assure that I would have been shouting misogyny even if Trump had won against Biden or any white male. And there is still a possibility that the Democratic nominee will be a white man. It doesn't matter, it Trump wins misogyny and racism will be the reason why. Trump is running on a campaign of misogyny and racism.

I think the dilemma with Trump as the republican nominee is that support for him requires many conservatives to suspend their ethics and moral sense. They are supporting him not because he will do a good job, but because he is offering them something personal to them. It might be tax cuts, or it might be some ideological purity. As these otherwise good conservatives suspend their better angels they will be open to the worst prejudices against Harris, as a woman, as a woman of color, as a child of immigrants, as a democrat, as a liberal, etc. We can expect all the ugliness of Trump and his followers where it comes to Harris. Trump and his followers seem to be facing new fears now that Biden is out, and as we know, Trump and MAGAs do not do ell when scared, like trapped animals. I predict Harris will take Michelle Obama's advice annd take the high ground. That will let Trump and MAGA's irrational anger and tantrums collapse on itself.
