Prospective President Kamala Harris

But he made a legitimate point. We all know that only the Democrat or the Republican is going to win the election. Voting for a third party candidate or a write-in seems fatuous--equivalent to not voting at all.

But is it really? I do understand your position. I support Kamala Harris and will vote for her, but I live in a blue-majority state. So I can simply not vote, and she will still win my state. If I lived next door in Idaho, my vote for her would probably not matter, but I'd still vote for her just to have it registered that I had an opinion in the matter. Our individual votes are never decisive, but they give us a chance to have our opinion counted, even if our preferred candidate is hopeless and our vote inconsequential.

I just wish that our country elected the president by popular vote instead of this wacko electoral college system. Then every vote would literally count. And, if we had ranked-choice voting, we could register a vote for the candidate we thought best and also for a second preference.
Ever heard of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact as a way to deal with the electoral college?

It was on fire when I laid down on it.

Well, I don't live in a swing state, but I do want to vote for other people in other positions, which may or may not be swing positions. Also, there are usually some positions to clarify. I just hate leaving things blank! I don't want Harris or Trump on my conscience by the way. Someone somewhere will see what I vote.

I forget....
Why do you object so strongly to Harris?

Because I don't care for the DNC platform. And I just really can't stand Trump.

Of course, it's too early to know what Kamala Harris's platform is but generally I don't like her and don't like what she stands for.

You don't like her stand for women to be accepted as who they are? You can be wishy-washy *staff edit* or strong/strident like her, but that you have the option would be something you would stand for.

I didn't say anything specific and there are specifically things I like about her but overall, I don't care for the Democrat's platform. LOL and I am far from wishy washy.

Well it is hard to tell from this vantage point. :)

You can put smiley faces wherever you like but it doesn't change a thing. What do you consider to be wishy washy about me? Please be specific. Thanks.

Sure. I've been hearing about it for years now. It's not going anywhere, AFAICT. Democrats like it, and Republicans don't, because popular elections right now would favor Democrats. Hence, the current Supreme Court would likely declare the scheme unconstitutional, because it is a Republican Court now.

To put a more positive spin on it, you prefer the RNC over the DNC, even though Donald Trump essentially owns the RNC. You vote for policies, and you prefer Republican stands on the issues, just not Donald Trump.

Right, it is starting huh. Don't like Harris then you are against women somehow.

Harris has compared ICE to the KKK, promoted defunding police, was terrible on the border, opposes fracking, wants to decriminalize illegal border crossings, she has advocated mandatory buyback programs for assault rifles, supports taxpayer funded health care for illegal migrants, co authored green new deal, supports abortion up until birth etc. etc. These are what we should be talking about and not her gender.

was terrible on the border,
I am genuinely interested in this opinion. Could you explain "how" she was terrible on the border when her assignment was to engage, observe, and learn?

The bipartisan border solution that Trump frowned upon was part of her success of assignment. She honorably can't be held responsible for that bill's denial.

So how was she terrible on the border? I sincerely would like to be enlightened as the border issue is very important to me.

Short on specifics.
Is it just a personal feeling towards her?

No, Harris did not compare ICE to the KKK. What she said was that "certain communities" compared them to the KKK, and that was in the context of a Senate confirmation hearing in which she was questioning Ron Vitiello, President Trump’s nominee to lead ICE. She recalled that he had once labelled Democrats as "neo-Klanist". So she asked him if he were aware of that perception among some communities without herself endorsing that label. Critics of hers on both the right and the left have distorted the exchange. For example, the following article from the New Republic carries a somewhat misleading headline, and claimed that she accused Americans generally of viewing ICE as the Ku Klux Klan. But her words in the content of that article do not support the claim at all:

Kamala Harris Draws Parallels between ICE and the KKK

She does not want to "decriminalize illegal border crossings", as you claim. That is simply false. She opposed fracking in 2019, but no longer does. She has advocated for a mandatory buyback of assault rifles, has supported health care for undocumented migrants, favored legislation to deal with climate change, and supported reproductive rights as they existed under Roe v Wade. Get your facts straight, and we can certainly talk about the issues that she actually does support and the things that she actually has said.

Harris is considering a wide range of vice presidential candidates from the Democratic Party’s bench, though people familiar with the process say a short list has emerged including three elected officials with nationwide appeal: Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Of those three I'd go with Kelly, but I really, really want to see Beshear make it.
