I think it's more of a "small, tight group" thing than society in general.Purity spiral - Wikipedia
Very interesting read, and applicable to a lot of what's going on in society.
People who are not member of the tight group have a fair chance to work against group think. E.g. "political correctness" or "wokeness". It has been a fad in the more left leaning media, and they tried to push it like a meme. But as far as I can tell, it has stopped at a reasonable level and is even reverting.
