Putting party before country and the type of communism we have

I hear a lot of Republicans criticizing Democrats as being "socialists" or "communists". I think the Republicans need to look in the mirror and stop putting their party before country. Why do Republicans support a party and a system that is taking away people's economic rights to live a life with human decency?

I think we can all agree we have a one-party communist system in this country. The problem is it's NOT the kind of communism that is in the worker's favor. The billionaires pay the lobbyists to get the politicians to pass laws creating cartels and monopolies in exchange for campaign financing. What we have in this country is corporate communism. We have pricing fixing of wages, products, and services BUT NOT in the worker's favor:

The economic data is clearly NOT in the favor of the worker. Every worker is broke and in debt and one or two missing paychecks away from being homeless.

I hear a lot of criticisms of Democrats. But the Republicans are putting party before country. What difference does it make what kind of communism we have? I think Republicans are just as bad Democrats. Anyone who thinks otherwise is being delusional.

And Democrats are not really Democrats. Hillary Clinton is a Nixon Republican. She admitted in her book she worked on Barry Goldwater's presidential campaign. Barry Goldwater was a Republican!!!

We have no choice in this country. We have no democracy. Here are the words from an FDR 1936 post Great Depression speech:

"An old English judge once said: 'Necessitous men are not free men.' Liberty requires opportunity to make a living - a living decent according to the standard of the time, a living which gives man not only enough to live by, but something to live for.

For too many of us the political equality we once had won was meaningless in the face of economic inequality. A small group had concentrated into their own hands an almost complete control over other people's property, other people's money, other people's labor - other people's lives. For too many of us life was no longer free; liberty no longer real; men could no longer follow the pursuit of happiness.

Against economic tyranny such as this, the American citizen could appeal only to the organized power of government."

FDR's words are MORE true today than in 1936!!! Necessitous men are not free men. Nothing will change in this country as long as Republicans keep putting their party before country. What we have in this country is corporate communism. The workers are screwed!!!

Ironic thing however is nobody mentions the salaries and incomes of top Democrats.

Kind of defeats the whole point.

There are quite a few democrats that call themselves democratic socialists so I'm not sure what the problem is with someone repeating what they call themselves. Is it the "it's not what you say but how you say it" thing?

Besides, Bill Gates never gave a single dime as himself-- he has an army of lawyers who show him how to avoid taxes, and always gives using foundations.

None of which are political in the same manner as Koch and his ilk. Gates Foundation promotes science, for the most part.

I would say that both parties are putting money and personal profit ahead of country. To suggest that they're putting their party first would imply that they have principles, but I don't believe they have any. "Communism" would imply a belief in the well-being of the collective, but such beliefs are clearly absent when examining the character and platform of both parties.

I think part of the problem is perhaps that Americans are trying to leverage their dollars. Finance companies/banks are doing great. Folks are getting loans or going on payment plans that charge high interest.

The market charges what the consumer can bear. So more available money through loans/financing the more the market can charge for its product. So not only can the consumer pay more for the product but they also pay for the interest/finance charge.

It's not the parties, we are causing this ourselves through our consumer driven economy. If folks are going to purchase beyond their means, the market is all too happy to oblige.

For example I was looking at the latest IPad, $1800. That's a lot for something I can actually do without, however 0% down, $95 per month it becomes tempting.

Me, I think we might want to stop blaming others for our lack of control. No one has to buy any of that crap.

So you're saying it's not the price that the companies place on their products that's the problem, it's the idiots that are willing to pay that price for the item they want?

I can live pretty cheaply. Don't need to go to Starbucks and spend $6 or $7 for a cup of coffee. I remember when coffee was 25 cents. So my dollar won't buy as much coffee as it used to. Starbucks made 22 billion in 2017.

Maybe there's some exceptions, but the market is also consumer driven. Companies making billions of dollars by giving us what we want, or want we are willing to pay for.

Yeah....and? When coffee was .25, what was the average wage? I remember when gas was .29 per gallon, but the minimum wage at the time was .90 per hour.
