In my suggested experiment; the mirror is striped out according to the specification of diffraction grating, and it has a hole in it, with radius of 5 cm, centered at point B. Now, when the incident photon passes through the hole, and it is captured by the second detector, then, there is no energy left to perform a diffraction grating. As matter of fact if in this situation, any diffraction grating can be detected, then we have to throw out the Law of the conservation of energy. For this scenario the equation of energy according to what you say, it will be as follow:

One incident photon (E1) = One captured photon by the second detector (E1) + the energy from the diffraction grating

This equation cannot be right, because on the right side we do have an extra energy (from the diffraction grating). So, by claiming that I am wrong, that does not make it so; your claim should also satisfy the Law of conservation of energy, which it does NOT.

This conclusion simply means; that in All-Path Integral approach those paths are just imaginary paths, and they do NOT carry any energy, and QED All-Path integral approach is false.

This is a strange behavior from the physicists, it looks like they have been bewitched by QED All-Path Integral approach, that they refuse to see these obvious flaws.

As I have said repeatedly in my previous posts, physicists by introducing the faulty QED All-path Integral approach, they have tried to ignore the glaring contradiction that exists for the mirror reflection. One should tell to these physicists, never mind with the idea of QED All-Path Integral approach, please answer the following puzzle:

QED says that the incident photon gets absorbed by an electron and then this energized electron emits the reflected photon, since the energized electron emits photon in a random direction, then how can we have the Optic Law for mirror reflection, where the reflection happens is in a specific direction?

In your scenario, the size of the hole (5 cm) is very large compared to the wavelength of the light. That means that, properly aimed, all paths that do not hit that hole are canceled out by nearby paths that also do not hit that hole. The phase differences will be greatly different and so those paths will cancel out and not be detected.

The electron in the reflection will emit in a random direction, but the phase will depend on the phase of the incoming photon. Paths with diretions not that of the optic law will cnacel out due to these phase differences. It is only on the optic path that the phases will not cancel.

I wonder why you can't see the specifics that I have presented here? Let me highlighted for you: “mirror is striped out according to the specification of diffraction grating, and it has a hole in it, with radius of 5 cm, centered at point B.”

Then, how phase differences can cancel each other?

And yes the hole is big, in order to let the incident photon to pass through without any interaction.
With this big hole in the mirror, still more than 99.2% of the mirror is intact to produce the diffraction grating.

Please answer the following puzzle, instead of engaging with these ridiculous distractions.

QED says that the incident photon gets absorbed by an electron and then this energized electron emits the reflected photon, since the energized electron emits photon in a random direction, then how can we have the Optic Law for mirror reflection, where the reflection happens is in a specific direction?

The puzzle of the Mirror Image Reflection

Let us make an observation; if we turn off the pumps of a fish tank, then we can see the reflection of the content of the fish tank from the calm surface water of the fish tank. A fish sees its own image reflected from the calm surface water! (This sentence is made just to crystalize the image reflection phenomenon, and nothing else.) I do not know the percentage of this reflection. This observation shows that both sides of the water surface simply play the paramount role for the phenomenon of the mirror image reflection, and these reflections are expressed by the Optic Law for reflection.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

This is how QED (Quantum Electrodynamics theory) analyzes the mirror image reflection.

A photon is a quantum particle of light, and QED tells us that interactions between photons and electrons are very complicated processes, and they only can be analyzed by uncertainty principle and probabilities. Prof. Richard Feynman in his many lectures says in a reflection each photon gets absorbed by an electron and then this energized electron emits the reflected photon. If the interaction between photons and electrons is a quantum system, and it is governed by the uncertainty principle and the probabilities, then, the images that get reflected over the surface of calm water and the mirrors they always should get scrambled beyond any recognition, and they should never be recognizable, but that is not the case at all. We earnestly need to know how the mirror reflection, which it is a quantum system, produces the Optic Law, which it is based on the certainty for the direction of the reflection, and without any doubt it violates the core principles of QED. Why there is this disconnect between what QED principles say and what we observe in our daily lives? The knowledge of QED principles enabled us to recognize this peculiar puzzle, and that is a 2020 vision.

To answer this puzzle, QED analyzes the reflection process for one photon, and it concludes if the answer is valid for one photon, then the answer is valid for each and every photon that exists in any reflected image. Then, QED sets up an experiment:
a photon source at point A emits a photon, this photon gets reflected by a mirror, and a photon gets detected at point C by a photomultiplier. (Our modern technologies have enabled us to emit and to detect one photon at a time, with remarkable precisions.)

To analyze this experiment QED has devised the method of “All-Path Integral approach”. In this method QED claims that the reflection happens from the entire surface of the mirror. Then, this QED method directs all the reflections from the entire surface of the mirror toward the detecting device at point C, and then it adds up all the amplitude vectors which are associated with each path, and it concludes that its result matches with the result from the Optic Law.

There is a big problem with this QED method! In every quantum mechanics analysis, every step has to be based on uncertainty and probabilities, then,
directing all the reflections from the entire mirror surface toward the point C, is absolutely a wrong step, and QED statistical principles forbids it. There is absolutely no justification to make this gross assumption, actually QED core principles says we can never define the direction of the reflection with any certainty. Since the direction of reflection in QED is all statistical, and no direction can be defined, then QED simply and conveniently has adopted the detection point that it is provided by the Optic Law into its configuration, and naturally this produces exactly the same result, and then QED shamelessly announces that its result is in harmony with the Optic Law! In common language this is called cheating, fudging, fabricating, and deceiving. This is too shameful to admit that we have this disgraceful step in our scientific investigation. This faulty step voids this QED method altogether.

QED’s wavefunction method also verifies the falsehood of this QED method's faulty step. In wavefunction method there is absolutely no reason that the reflected wavefunctions from any point on the surface of the mirror to get collapsed at point C. Each of the wavefunction from each point on the mirror surface is spread out in vast area and in many directions, then, interjecting that they all collapse at point C, that is a classical step, and it is not allowed for any quantum mechanics system. We may only figure out the probabilities of each wavefunction to collapse at point C, but certainly we cannot say that they all collapse at point C.

I think there should not be any deception or fabrication for any of our scientific analyses. That would be too childish and self-defeating for any of our scientific explanations. I wonder how such shameful cheating could have escaped the inquisitive minds of all physicists for over 90 years. However, whether this mistake happened intentionally, or inadvertently, but this mistake has shielded QED from being exposed, that it does not have any clue, what is happening at the surface of the mirror in the process of the mirror image reflection.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

In this section I would like to examine another QED argument, which it is about the reflection of photon from the surface of water or a glass.

Experiments show that the width of the glass mysteriously affects the probability of the reflection from both surfaces of glass. For the light that it is normal to the surface of a glass the probability of the reflection is 4%. And if the light gets reflected from both surfaces of a glass, the probability of reflection instead of being 4% + 4% = 8%, the probability of reflection would depend on the thickness of the glass, and it mysteriously varies between 0% and 16%. (I hope this experiment has been tested thoroughly, and it is not a hoax.)

To solve this mysterious puzzle, QED invented the amplitude vector method. The square value of the amplitude vectors gives the probability of the reflection. The length of the amplitude vector for the reflection from one surface of a glass is defined by 2, and that makes the probability of the reflection from one surface to be 2 x 2 = 4%. For two surfaces, first we need to add up their amplitude vectors, based on the thickness of the glass, the length of the summation of the amplitude vectors for both surfaces varies between 0 and 4, and the square of these values are 0% to 16%. We can choose a glass thickness that it reflects 0%, and we can choose a glass thickness that it reflects 16%. With various glass thicknesses we can have reflections between 0% and 16%. With this clever method QED established a solution for the mystery of 0% to 16% reflection. So far so good, and so dandy!

Now, I repeat the experiment with a glass thickness that it reflects 16%. Then, I choose two other glasses with the same thickness. I place the second glass parallel to the first one, so the light that passes through the first glass, it gets reflected by the second glass with similar probabilities, I make the distance between the two glasses to be such, that the amplitude vectors for the reflection from the second glass to be at the same direction of the first glass. As a result the value of the summation of their amplitude vectors will be twice as much of the first glass. Now, I place the third glass parallel to the second glass with similar specifications. Now, for the probability of the reflection from these three layered glasses, first we need to add-up their amplitude vectors. The length of the summation of their amplitude vectors is: (2 + 2) + (2 + 2) + (2 + 2) = 12, and that makes the probability of reflection from these three layered glasses to be 12 x 12 = 144%! Obviously this figure cannot be right; probability of any reflection can never get more than 100%. This bogus result shows maybe QED’s solution is not that dandy after all.

This post is the continuation from the previous post.

For over the past one hundred years our technologies have flourished way beyond our wildest imaginations, and QED theory has been at the foundation of most of these advancements, and yet the underneath foundation of Quantum Mechanics is shrouded with deep mysteries, that nobody understands it. The mantra for our modern Research & Development (R&D) is: “Shut up and calculate!”

Einstein wrote: “all these 50 years of conscious brooding have brought me no nearer to the question what are light quanta, every Dick and Harry thinks he knows it, but he is mistaken!” The experiment confirms this, whatever is happening we just don’t understand it. (This comment is at 46:00 minutes of this video:
)

The mantra of “Shut up and calculate!” has been successful, and it has advanced our technologies with amazing achievements. But at the same time it has limited us and made us to be content about the current scope of QED, and it has stopped us from asking the hard and the bothersome questions. This is totally unacceptable and it is betraying the free spirits of our innate quests for investigations and explorations, and this limiting mindset should be condemned at all costs. We do not need to concern ourselves with the scenario that maybe: “we cannot handle the truth!” Being inquisitive is our innate gifted state. And that needs to be preserved genuinely. There might be a deeper reason for that innate gifted state, that we are simply unable to comprehend it at this time.

Nowadays our technologies have enabled us to emit one photon at a time, and to detect one photon at a time. Based on this significant and precise capability, we can examine the optic law for reflection with great precision. We also have made great progress understanding the emission of photons by atoms, and also experimenting the emission and absorption of photons by charged particles. All these experiments are strictly analyzed based on Quantum Mechanics principles. And according to our QED theory the mirror image reflection is also based on the interactions between photons and electrons, and these interactions are certainly Quantum Mechanics systems.

All these advancements made it possible for us to ask the question of the 2020 vision: what happens at the mirror image reflection system that this peculiar experiment stops being a Quantum Mechanics system, and instead it acts like a classical system?

This is abundantly clear that we do not think that an energized electron possesses the cognition and the awareness to differentiate between different situations; that normally it emits its photon in a random direction, versus to emit its photon deliberately in a specific direction when it is located on the surface of a mirror. And in order to produce the Optic Law, it needs to register the direction that it receives the incoming photon, and it emits its photon in the precise direction that it produces the Optic Law for reflection. And registering the direction, it is not based on its internal coordinates, but rather at the coordinates that it satisfies the Optic Law in regard to the surface of the mirror.

This observation compels us to conclude; no matter how complex is the structure of an electron, this is too much cognition to be associated to a single electron, to behave in this puzzling complex and conscious manner. But, strangely this complex behavior is very similar to all the other Quantum Mechanics complex behaviors; and so far they have been too bizarre and way beyond our comprehensions.

Scientifically we cannot ignore the existence of this much cognitive actions for the interaction between each electron and each photon in the process of the mirror image reflections, and we need to find out the source that generates these cognitive actions for these elementary particles. For sure in our technologies we have built complex switches that they do some amazing cognitive actions, but we have designed them to act in those special ways, but we cannot imagine that these elementary particles can possess this kind of cognitive abilities. So, how this cognitive action materializes in these interactions between these elementary particles?

My hunch is that there has to be a Conscious Force in the fabric of the Nature, even though this notion is way beyond our wildest imagination, but peculiarly this Conscious Force has been recognized spiritually within our religions, since we acquired the intelligence to recognize such puzzling phenomenon within our environment.

The mirror image reflection is not the only phenomenon that demonstrates the existence of this peculiar cognitive behavior, the formation of multiple symmetries in each snowflake is also pointing exactly to the same conclusion.

Most likely our scientific communities strongly will reject this suggestion about the existence of a Conscious Force in the fabric of the Nature, and that is fine, it is prudent to be cautious, but no longer can they offer us this
Lousy and Bogus QED Method that it does not even jive with the core principles of the QED. We have reached to this new conclusion by our 2020 vision.

In the presentation of “all path argument”, all the reflected paths are directed toward the photon-multiplier that it is CONVENIETLY placed in the location that it matches with the result from the optic law! So, on its own merit “all path argument” cannot identify the direction of the reflection at all.
The optic law for mirror reflection is a peculiar phenomenon; it defies all other probabilistic behavior that we have discovered at Quantum level. This strange phenomenon, that it can be observed from the sceneries over the surfaces of calm water, it is revealing something very basic, deep at the fabric of universe, and we needed to reach to the sophistication level of quantum mechanics, in order to realize the extent of its functions.

It's not like light gets dimmer from a reflection when there are more observers experience it from different angles. Everything is reflected equally in every direction. Maybe the wave function collapses in concentric circles radiating out as perpendicular waves so there's no change to any one observer.

I wonder if this has some bearing on your consciousness when you look into the mirror and see your own face in the black part of your eye being reflected back at you to the mirror. And I assume the image is recursing back and forth to infinity like two opposing mirrors.

Does a photon, reflected by a mirror, have a wave-function?

In our experiment the source at point A emits a photon to the surface of a mirror, and our detector at point C detects the reflected photon. Does the quantum system of this reflection have a wave-function equation, with answers in probabilities?

Because the direction of the reflection, and the point of the detection are known with precision, there is no wave-function equation for this QM interaction. QM never produces any precise answer for any QM system, because wave-function always produces answers with randomness and probabilities, and this is the hallmark of the QM. Then, what causes this quantum system not to have a wave-function equation, and instead it has answer with precision?

Yes.

Wrong.

there is no wave-function equation for this QM interaction. QM never produces any precise answer for any QM system, because wave-function always produces answers with randomness and probabilities, and this is the hallmark of the QM. Then,
what causes this quantum system not to have a wave-function equation?

Your misunderstandings of the physics are not getting any better, it seems.

Dear Polymath257,

1. Could you please be more precise, and explain what is the wave-function for this QM interaction?
The reflected photon always gets detected at point C, then where are the randomness and the probabilities of the wave-function for the reflected photon? This precision at the point of detection defies this system to be a QM system. All QM systems should produce answers in the form of the randomness and probabilities; that is what the Schrodinger equation produces.

2. You said my statement of "Because the direction of the reflection, and the point of the detection are known with precision," was wrong. Could you please explain why this statement was wrong? Because if this statement was wrong, then the reflected images would have blurred significantly.
Actually the QED "All-Path Integral" method plugs-in that detection point into its configuration, trying to produce exactly the same result as the Optic Law, and that is a cheating, but nevertheless this is exactly how the QED "All-Path Integral" method produces its result. Anyway, this precise answer is not acceptable from a QM system. Because in a QM system wave-function always produces answers with randomness and probabilities, and that is the hallmark of the QM. And our reflected photon for some unknown reason acts NOT like a QM system! And my question was: “what causes this quantum system not to have a wave-function equation, and instead it has answer with precision?”

Your misunderstandings of the physics are not getting any better, it seems.

Apparently this is exactly where we have our differences! Let us find out who is right and who is wrong, by answering questions 1 and 2.

In our experiment a source at point A emits a photon to the surface of a mirror, and the detector at point C detects the reflected photon.

Does this mirror reflected photon have an answer with Schrodinger wave-function equation (answers with randomness and probabilities)?

The mirror reflected photon as a QM system it should have an answer with Schrodinger wave-function equation (with randomness and probabilities), but it does NOT, instead it has a precise answer; which is unlike a normal QM system!! In this QM system for some unknown reason the direction of the reflected photon is defined with a remarkable precision. And that makes “Mirror Image Reflection” phenomenon a paradox.

QM says; at the level of photons and electrons, it is impossible to know what happens, the best that we can do, we only analyze these interactions by the statistics of their random behaviors; this is what Schrodinger wave-function equation produces. Based on this hypothesis no answer can possibly go beyond this limitation, and any answer that offers more details or precision; such an answer cannot be valid or legitimate, and somehow a mistake must have entered into its configuration. By this guideline we can see that QED “All-Path Integral” method cannot be right, because it predicts the direction of the emission, or the point of the detection, with incredible precision, which it is exactly the same as the Optic Law. Let us examine QED “All-Path Integral” method, to see where the mistakes have entered into its configuration, that it produces this illegitimate precise answer.

QED has developed “All-Path Integral” method tries to explain the reflection of ONE photon by a mirror. In this method the incoming photon spreads out to interact with the entire surface of the mirror, and then from each point on the surface of the mirror the reflection goes toward the detection point at point C. In this argument the second step is very odd, and it has no foundation or justification, and it is so wrong. We do understand that in QM a photon spreads out like a wave, so, there is no problem assuming that the incoming photon is interacting with the entire surface of the mirror, but at the second step, that the reflections from each point on the surface of the mirror converges toward the detection point at point C, that calls for an unknown mechanics! We never had a wave that “all of it” would be going in reverse and converging toward a detection point, this weird mechanics has been invented in this phony QED method. And these reflections are converging conveniently toward the point which it has been identified by the Optic Law, as the point of the detection. There is absolutely no base for this assumption either, other than; that it conveniently implants the detection point into its configuration. We are not supposed to plug-in the KNOWN detection point into our configuration; our configuration should produce this result naturally; with some justified rational steps. In common language this implanting the correct result into our configuration is called “cheating”!

In the following argument, I prove that there is no reflection from the rest of the mirror at all. At the area where the incoming photon hits to the surface of the mirror I make a small hole in the mirror, the hole is large enough that the incoming photon can pass through it, without interacting with the mirror. I place a second detector at the back of the mirror to detect this incoming photon. Then no matter how we manipulate the rest of the mirror surface with diffraction grating lines to maximize the summation of the amplitude vectors, there cannot be any reflection from the mirror surface in any direction, because any reflection will violate the principle of conservation of energy.

As we see multiple mistakes has entered into QED “All-Path Integral” configuration, which nullifies this argument altogether, and beside as I explained earlier, no normal QM system can produce any answer more precise than the answer that the Schrodinger wave-function produces, so by this QM guideline this answer from QED “All-Path Integral” method is void.

The smart Physicists know on the subject of the “Mirror Image Reflection”, they have been teaching the wrong and deceptive QED “All-Path Integral” method! Understandably this would be too embarrassing for them to admit that they have been wrong for so long. But the embarrassment does not end there; QED’s failure to have a plausible answer for “Mirror Image Reflection” is a bigger embarrassment. So, the Physicists have stuck with the bogus and deceptive QED “All-Path Integral” method in order to hide this QED failure, because it was too difficult to explain this QED failure!

The integrity of Science and Scientists demands to remove this QED mistake without any hesitation. That has been the spirit of Science, and that cannot be compromised. This opens the door to examine and investigate this fascinating phenomenon more thoroughly.

The mirror reflected photon also forces us to expand the Copenhagen’s interpretation of photon, that image also needs to include this behavior of photon.

Here is the experiment; a photon source at point A sends ONE photon to the surface of a mirror, and the reflected photon is detected at point C by a photo-multiplier. For our little experiment I need to ask this question:

A photon reflected from a mirror, as a QED system it should have a Schrodinger wave-function equation (answers with randomness and probabilities), but how can there be any randomness, when the direction of its reflection is well-defined in advance?

This is a valid question that physicists must answer it with clarity.

Well, since physicists have no clue how to answer this question they are too embarrassed and too ashamed to admit that their celebrated QED theory has failed to answer this question. So, they have resorted to cover-up, and they try to avoid this question no matter how it may disgrace their integrity. Isn’t it disgusting that they still are teaching the bogus argument of QED “All-Path Integral” method, when they know very well that the precise answer from this method is null and void; because no QED method should produce a precise answer; all QED answers have to be in the form of randomness and probabilities; and that is what the Schrodinger wave-function equation produces.

The direction of this reflected photon from the mirror is tied up to the direction of the incoming photon that hits to the mirror, and this tying up connection is expressed by the Optic Law. In the quantum domain where the answers are wild and in the form of the randomness and probabilities, this tying up connection is the most unusual behavior that it can be. Also, for the reflected photon there is no spreading out wave process, unlike all the other QED experiments where the particles spread out like waves, which they are expressed with the Schrodinger wave-function equation. What causes this mirror reflected photon NOT to be like all the other normal QED interactions? Something very strange is happening in this very common phenomenon which it dismisses our glorious and celebrated QED theory.

This is my understanding about “Mirror Image Reflection”:

The experiment; a photon source at point A emits ONE photon to the surface of a mirror, and the reflected photon is detected at point C by a photomultiplier.

In this experiment the photon moves explicitly and distinctively like a particle on its Optic Path, and the wave property of photon does not manifest itself at all. As a result the point of its detection is defined with precision, so, there is no Schrodinger wave-function equation for this photon, where the answers are defined with randomness and probabilities; as if for this photon the Quantum Effects do not exist at all. We can verify this distinct particle behavior at any point alongside of its Optic Path, and there is absolutely no deviation from its Optic Path, otherwise the reflected images from the mirrors would have become blurred beyond any recognition. This distinct particle behavior distinguishes “Mirror Image Reflection” to be very different from all the other QED phenomena where they are expressed by the Schrodinger wave-function equation.

Since QED theory cannot explain “Mirror Image Reflection”, then Physicists have resorted to the deception of the QED “All-Path Integral” method. If the entire energy of the photon can be detected alongside of its Optic Path, then there is no energy left to be distributed to any other paths, and QED “All-Path Integral” method cannot get materialized at all. Also, if we make some grating lines on different section of the mirror to maximize the summation of the amplitude vectors for that section of the mirror, still there will be NO reflection from that section of the mirror either; the entire energy of the photon still remains on its Optic Path without any distribution to anywhere else. So, that is absolutely a mistake to assume that the other parts of the mirrors contribute anything to the mirror reflection process. Besides, all QED configurations have to produce answers with randomness and probabilities; the precise answer does not exist for any solution by the Schrodinger wave-function equation. Also, without any justification this QED method has used the detection point from the Optic Law (Point C) into its configuration; that is called a cheating. For over 90 years QED “All-Path Integral” method and its sister the wave-function method have been deceiving us, that is long enough, these bogus QED methods need to be dismissed in their entirety.

In 1801 Thomas Young with the double-slit experiment demonstrated clearly that light had wave property. Then in 1900 Max Planck suggested that assuming light as discrete packets of energy that solves the problem of Ultra-Violate catastrophe in the black-body radiation, and in 1905 for the photo-electric phenomenon Albert Einstein proved that light exchanges energy in a quantized manner. Then, it was concluded that light interacted in chunk of energy packet, that it had wave property, each packet of energy was called a photon. According to the Copenhagen interpretation for the Young double-slit experiment or any similar experiments the state of a photon between the point that it is released from its source and the point that it is observed by a screen is described by a Schrodinger wave-function equation. In these experiments we assume that photon during its obscure path it spreads out like a wave, and this wave collapses like a particle when it is detected on a screen. QED “All-Path Integral” method was designed to explain “Mirror Image Reflection” in term of the wave property of photon. But in this experiment there is no sign of any wave property. This was utterly a wrong attempt, and the inconsistencies in the produced result verify the falsehood of this attempt. Let me give you a vivid example to crystallize this very obvious point; a vicious and brutal tyrant may be a loving and caring father for his children, so, one characteristic does not eliminate or over-write the other characteristic, they both exist in the same person, but they manifest themselves in different occasions. So, photons in “Mirror Image Reflection” phenomenon distinctly behave like a particle, without any manifestation of its wave property.

Still the deep mystery remains; how the Optic Law for reflection comes into existence?
