Can you unfocus your eyes make your vision blurry on command? I thought everyone could but came across this on facebook and apparently not everyone can. I do it all the time to avoid eye contact.

Not me.

"The ability to defocus your eyes on command is a natural one, but not everyone can do it.

It’s accomplished by having the ability to relax the ciliary muscles in your eyes, which causes them to lose their focusing powers."

Like i said i do it all the time so I can look like im making eye contact but im not.
I don't do it to avoid eye contact. Sometimes I'm just starring into the distance and when people are in the way they assume I'm starring at them.

I can. How I do it is by not trying to consciously move my eyes or focus on any object. My vision gets blurry as a result.

I had no idea that only some people could do that.

Oh. Now this got me confused.

Pick your finger, any finger, and slowly approach it to the area between your eyes. Focus your vision on your finger while you are doing this. Now put down that finger. What do you see?

Let me try to explain what I see: While I approach my head with the finger, the background of the image becomes a mess which is more easily seen when I put down the finger. In essence what I see is two blurry and misaligned images. I can reproduce the same affect at will, and even control to what extent the images are going to be misaligned.

The reason I am explaining this is because from reading your post you seem to be doing something else entirely to achieve bluriness. Is that correct?

Yes, I'm mostly doing something else, but the common factor is the focus on one object while relaxing my eyes. If I consciously move my eyes to another object, the blurriness "resets."

I can also, at will, move a bone in my inner ear. I don't know of anyone else who can. It saves me trouble when I'm driving through mountains, because I can pop my ears.
