Question for all PLEASE: II

I thought I'd follow up the 5 people over for dinner with this one:

If you could go back and watch and 3 events in the history of the world, what would they be?
-YES, you can only choose 3 and they have to be "events" on Earth (though I would accept the moon landing). You can't interfere with the outcome of the event, you are just there as an "outside observer".

Hmmm...

A Soft Cell concert, back when they were in their prime.

A Jethro Tull concert, I'm not sure when, but definitely after they had released Aqualung.

A Talking Heads concert, pretty much any time.

Interesting. I thought about those things, but really, I have no need to see them. My love for the talking heads, however, is stunted by the fact that I have never seen them live.

The Ramones & Television @ CBGB's in '76

The Germs @ The Whiskey A Go-Go in '78

And either The Clash's London Weekend Show in '76 or the Social Distortion/Youth Brigade/Minor Threat tour in.... I think it was '83 (the tour that the documentary Another State of Mind grew out of).

This question reminds me of a book. The Traveler's Gift: Seven Decisions That Determine Personal Success

from the publisher said:
This unique narrative is a blend of entertaining fiction, allegory, and inspiration, with just a touch of self-help. Gifted storyteller Andy Andrews gives us a front-row seat for one man's journey of a lifetime.

David Ponder is at a crossroads. Having lost his job and the will to live, he has been supernaturally selected to travel through time, gathering wisdom for future generations. Visits to historical figures such as Abraham Lincoln, King Solomon, and Anne Frank yield the Seven Fundamentals for Success that will impact the entire world. A visit to the future reveals the result of David's journey, the fruits of his labor.

Ultimately, like David, readers will see how the perspective of our own circumstances is dramatically altered when we glimpse the “big picture” of life.
This was an amazing book. I recommend it to all. The character goes back to 7 events. I will choose for myself, my favorite 3.

King Solomon, during the building of the temple. (who taught service to others)
Pres. Truman, during his decision to drop the bomb.(who taught the buck stops here)
Anne Frank, during her hiding. (who taught 'I choose to be happy today')

Christ's Sermon on the Mount
Wow yeah, thats a good one. To see that knowing the significance it would have for so many generations to come would be amazing. I wouldn't understand Aramaic but for the purposes of fantasy I'll ignore that.

Christ's Sermon on the Mount
Confucious meeting Lao Tzu
And...my mother and father meeting at University :D

What I would really like to see is the future. I would give up my life right now if I had the opportunity to see what happens to us all 100 years, 1000 years and further into the future.

I've seen Social Distortion live 11 times in my life, so they weren't really a top priority on my list. That tour's basically in there because it was a landmark tour in 80's punk, as well as the basis for a documentary.

The Ramones and Television are first because that exact show was the one where the term "punk" as a form of music was coined AND it was also at that show that Malcolm McLaren saw Richard Hell from Television and flew back to England, stealing his "look" and exporting it to a newly put together Sex Pistols. It was, in my opinion, perhaps the most important show in Punk history.

Besides, the Ramones are my favorite band.

And, as Chrispy said, it wouldn't be practical (or perhaps even safe), to travel back and forth through time. :D
