Question to theists: If God would not exist....

... i mean if it was certain that god didn't exist....
could you accept that or would you still believe in some god ?

Background to the question comes later.

If I were absolutely certain that a God does not exist, then I would not believe that a God exists.

But I do believe God exists, and you can't disprove it. So, it's a moot point, right? :p

You changed the statement a bit. I am not sure yet as to whether it is relevant but i think it could be.
The question is NOT really about whether YOU are certain, but rather if IT was certain.
I mean IF there was objective truth and evidence that god doesnt exist... would you then accept that or not.

Of course ideally that objective truth would also be reflected in ones own certainty... but we are not in an ideal world are we?

If there was absolute, undeniable proof specifically addressing the nonexistence of God -- then I would accept it.

Good luck with that, though.

You are asking here if theists would stop thinking about God if it is generally accepted that there is no God?

Haha. Well, if that's what he's asking...

Personally, I don't really care whether it's generally accepted or not. I'd believe it anyway.

But I got the impression that he was talking about an absolute, objective, undeniable, unequivocal proof which specifically disproved any possibility of God's existence. If such a thing existed, then I would accept it.

No. I do not believe in arguments of majority or authority.

Perhaps i should give some background information.

I found it rather interesting that when asked the question i have put here quite a lot of theists answered me:
"Even if it was certain that there was no god i would believe in him".

I wanted to see if this would happen here as well and see if the reasons given then correspond to the ones i have heard from the others i already asked.

Certainty resides in you.

Even as atheist I cannot imagine full proof for a non-existance of whatever.
My guess would be those theists you asked think the same..
If God really wanted everyone to believe in him, I would allready. So appareantly he does not need everyone to believe in him. This statement alone could keep theists believing forever.

Why would anyone do that...?
(I've heard the same thing before myself) I can't understand why someone would believe in something they were certain didn't exist?

I think for some it's because they want to keep their lifestyle the way they are used to it, yet it would make me more unhappy to attempt to force myself into thinking something that I was certain (with objective undeniable proof) was not real - though I myself think it's an impossible thing to attempt to prove or disprove God.
