Is it a sin to want to die? I'm not talking about suicide, just wishing for death.

Not at all, in my opinion. However, it can lead to suicidal thoughts, so it's not recommended. (Unless you're elderly.)

Under the doctrine of Orthodox Church it is a sin. The death is not peculiar to the man. He Was created for life. Recollect, that the God of death has not created. Also is not pleased death of the people. Recollect the Christ, which was asked to the Father up to bloody Sweats, that a share this passed it(him). The Christ did not want to die, because by healthy soul it is not peculiar to the man. He is pleased life. To want death - unnaturally and is a signal that with soul something not so.
Actually, Christ also has come us to rescue from death.

I might suggest that Job sought death, though he didn't curse GOD as his wife suggested. He did say, "I wish I was never born..."

Religion/superstition about sin is so convoluted believers don't even know when they are committing a so called sin and when they are not.

I believe it depends on why you want to die. It's not a sin to want to be dead I don't believe. But if you want to die to harm someone then that could be. I have many times long to be with the Lord because this earth is a horrible place being full of sin. I know that when I die I will be with the Lord, no reason to rush it, so I just keep placing one foot in front of the other at times.

Eternity is a long time so I have learned to enjoy life on this earth the best I can.

Sometimes the longing for death is a longing for change.
In that sense it is a good thing, because for a flower to grow and bloom it's seed must die first.

If the longing for death is a wish to escape - not so good. Rather try to "change" your reaction to life since you can't always change circumstances.

The universe is 13.5 Billion years old and is likely to go on for billions more years, irrelevant of what us puny humans may believe. We get 1 chance, 3 score and ten, plus or minus a bit. It is a beautiful planet full of amazing things. I dont want to miss a minute even if I am in pain, why wish for death when it is going to happen anyway in the blink of the universal eye. We are over full of our selves. A crime is when someone else is damaged/hurt by your actions, a sin is when it is a crime by yourself against yourself. A bit of some sins is a good thing (eg sex outside marriage, eating bacon, becoming a politician, masturbation), it adds spice to life to buck the system every so often and create challenges and add perspective through experience.

Cheers

Friend jslady,

iIs it a sin to want to die?

There is nothing as sin. Its all in the mind like any other thought.
Reality is that there is no death just a transformation of forms or energy that everything is made of.

There is the example of Suffering Job in the Bible. He was suffering so much that he wanted to die. Here are the verses:

(Job 14:13-15) "O that in She′ol [Hebrew word for grave] you would conceal me, That you would keep me secret until your anger turns back [Job thought that perhaps God was causing his suffering], That you would set a time limit for me and remember me! 14 If an able-bodied man dies can he live again? All the days of my compulsory service [time in the grave] I shall wait, Until my relief comes. 15 You will call, and I myself shall answer you. For the work of your hands you will have a yearning."

It is natural to want relief from suffering. But if we want to be faithful to the God of the Bible, we must allow life to take it's natural course. Death will come to all of us soon enough. Meanwhile do something to try to find some contentment.

I hope I was of some help.
