Questions about Genesis

Hello all, I'm new here. I have been a Christian all my life, although I've had my fair share of questions about my faith, and I have a deep relationship with God. However, I do not attend church, and have never read The Bible. I do feel bad about this, but I prefer to have my own view of God, not a Preacher's. This brings me to the reason of this topic.

I am a Sophomore in High School. In my Advanced History class, we were todl to read Genesis. I did so, but the Bible I own is King James, and extremely hard to understand. I read the entire book of Genesis, and as I sat The Bible down, I couldn't remember a bit of what happened. We were then assigned 35 questions. I can answer about 7 of them easily from my own knowledge, but the others I just have no idea. Can someone please help me until I can find a different version of The Bible?

1. Why was Cain punished? How was he punished?
2. Who were Enoch and Methuselah?
3. Who were Ham Shem and Japeth?
4.What command was Noah given?
5. Why was one of Noah's sons cursed?
6. WHat was the land of Abram's birth?
7. Who was Abram's wife?
8. What happened to Abram's wife in Egypt? Why?
9. Who was Lot? Why did he and Abram decide to seperate? Where did Lot decide to settle?
10. Who was Hagar? Why was she given to Abram?
11. Who were Isaac and Ishmael? Why was one of them cast out?
12. When Lot had visitors in Sodom, what happened?
13. How was Sodom destroyed?
14. Who was Melchizidek?
15. Why was Abimelech punished by God?
16. How was a wife acquired for Isaac?
17. Who were the sons of Isaac and Rebekah?
18. Who was the older brother cheated out of his birthright?
19. Where did Jacob go when he ran from his brother?
20. How did Jacob acquire two wives?
21. How did Jacob acquire such a large herd?
22. What happened to Jacob after he sent all his belongings across the river?
23. How did Tamar trick her father in law, Judah?
24. Why did Joseph's brothers dislike him?
25. How was Joseph punished by his brothers?
26. Who was Potiphar? Why was Joseph put into prison in Egypt?
27. How did Joseph get out of prison?
28. Why did Joseph's brothers come to Egypt?

:help: I have to study these for a test pretty soon. I plan on getting a Teen Bible in the next few days to help with my other Bible assignments. Can anyone help me?

I don't think it is a good idea to get people to do your home work for you.
as it is you will need to have another read.
I always think these sort of questions are amazingly unimportant. To me Questions that ask you to remember rather than THINK, are a waste of time.
A different version of the bible will not help a great deal. The language in the kjv is quaint but mostly understandable.

free with search functions

I had the same problem, I had a rabbi teach me some Hebrew so I could learn how to study the bible in it's original language. I used just a Strong's Concordance, my KJV and an old bible study book called The Way, for a long time, that's all I had.

Now, I use a website, Crosswalk, it gives many translations, including KJV w/Strong's numbers-Hebrew and Greek translations. There are a total of 26 different translations of the bible available here. You just use the search windows, and dropdown buttons to choose the word, or verse, and which translation you want to read from.
