Questions about Questions about RF...

Feathers in Hair

World's Tallest Hobbit
Now that we've gotten the confusing thread title out of the way, I'm hoping I can ask for your help on a project I'm working on. It'll hopefully be a very friendly explanation of RF, covering things like 'what's discussion versus debate' and 'how do I post a picture' and things like that.

The trouble is, I'm sure that there's a lot of questions that people have that I haven't even considered. I would love to know things that you think might be helpful to our members- not just the new ones, but to everyone!

If you'd like, your suggested question can be credited to you, as well!

Don't the modding dudes move the posts to the correct forum if they see it s debate
instead of discussion? Sometimes threads go that way, or vice versa.

Hey Feathers,

Great idea. I have picked things up here but it would have been nice to have some kind of instructions. I still have questions like what the heck is a Frubal? How is it defined? What criteria does one meet to advance from lets say a Freshman to a Junior? What are those ribbons for? It will be great to read.

See ya, Craig

Once you reach a certain number of posts. It goes Freshman-Junior-Senior-Uber not sure what vB calls you after that.

I have a question. When I go into my User CP, I can see all the frubals I've given and received. To the left of each of these is a small colored square. Most of these squares are green, but some are purple. Obviously the color means something, but I've been unable to figure out exactly what.

Also, the number of frubals one gets doesn't seem to go up by the same number each time (at least I don't think it does). Is there any way a person can control exactly how many frubals he's giving someone?

Yay! *huge hugs to everyone* This is great, guys! I really appreciate it!

Editted to add, please feel free to suggest questions you already know the answer to, too! I'm looking for any question anyone has ever had about the forums themselves, even if you've already know how the thing works.:bounce

Hi, Craig.

A frubal is essentially a "brownie point." You give people frubals when you think they've made an exceptionally good point. (It's nice to include your name when you do this, so that they know just who is paying them the compliment.) Frubals don't give you any special rights or privileges that I know of, but they're nice to have and nice to give. It's just the way we around here go about saying, "Awsome post!" in a way that will always be visible to everybody else.

Frubals are different from the "coins" you earn over time. Someone else will have to explain exactly how you earn them. I suspect it has something to do with the number of posts you've made. You can click on "Store" (about one third of the way down your screen) and see a drop-down list of things you can buy with your coins. These include such things as a glowing user-name or a custom title (your title normally being something like "Freshman" or "Junior"). Each of these things cost a certain number of coins. Ribbons, which must also be purchased with your coins, stand for certain "causes" you identify with. You can pick one or two (as I have done) or collect a huge bunch of them.

Frubals are a way to show a member that they have posted something of good nature,
helpful or otherwise decent post.

If a member thinks your post is well written, helpful, explanative or a good post in general,
they can let you know by crediting you with frubals regarding that post, this is done by
clicking the Frubals link at the top of the post you wish to credit:

Now, a little java box will pop up, allowing you to leave a comment regarding the post that you wish to credit. You mayleave it blank. In this box, type what you thought of the post.

After you have entered the comment, and clicked "add" the user will recieve the comments which can be seen in their User CP. I suggest also typing your name in the comments box, so they can see who credited their post. :) This will also add to their
frubal "score", judging by how many frubals you have: the more you have, the more they will be granted. It will give them a small percentage of your frubal. (you don't lose them however.)

I aint sure what the percentage is though. Rex? Pah? Feathers?

To post a pic here on the RF:

1)If it is on your computer, upload it to the net to a free image hosting account, such as
Here. Create an account and you can upload many pics.

2)If the pic is on the net already, you can use this little knacker (circled red):

piclink.JPG

to paste the link in the box that pops up. Note: SOME places (like Angelfire) do
not allow you to do this, but generally most sites do.

To copy text from another article on another site/forum to here:

Go to the site. Highlight all the text you want to copy (drag the mouse over it) and
while it's highlighted, right click mouse, and click copy. Open up your new thread or post here at RF, and where you type your message, right click the mouse and click paste.
(or Ctrl V for some browsers). :)

Bennettresearch,

I hate to have to be the one to have to tell you this *whispers and makes sure we're alone*, but the Frubals are bugged. True.

The greater the number of frubals, the more we know about your movements.:biglaugh:

loooks more like this :)

Here is a link (after uploading it to geocities) of a Sega Genesis:

http://www.geocities.com/malx75/genesis.jpg

Right, now, in between the img tags ( [img} ) you insert the link to the pic on the internet.

like so, but put it all in one line, not spaced out like I did above.

Do not link to pics from your pc :)
