Raj and Howard go to the temple, Big Bang theory

Last night on Big Bang Theory, Raj decided to go to the temple (I believe it was the Malibu Venkateshwara temple) Course I listened up. But for once, the writers didn't mangle much at all. In fact, Raj's explanations of his religion to Howard were true, and no more misconceptions or insults were made. Maybe Hollywood's getting better.

Here's the clip ...

I've never watched the how, but I'm glad to hear that something with such a wide audience gave a good portrayal. I wonder if it has anything to with the growing Indian population in the US.

Namaste,

The scriptwriters did well also in pointing out that science and religion need not always conflict.

The bit about Howard immediately taking Raj's use of the word "temple" to mean a Jewish one provoked a smile,
as it reminded me that not only is there not exactly a mandir on every corner in the US, we tend not to be
particularly socially boisterous or talkative concerning our religious practices in general- and in a land which has had no
shortage of those who do proselytize (and have, within their own houses of worship, derided Hinduism as superstitious,
primitive and idolatrous at best, and actually refer to our deities as demonic at worst), we have often found it
best to quietly buy some property for a mandir when we can, engage in some local charitable seva, and otherwise keep to ourselves.

You don't see stuff like this on TV much anymore... funny but educational. Thanks for sharing!
