Random Acts of Kindess

Have you ever done an act of kindness or service for someone and then didn't feel like it mattered? This is for you then, for all those selfless things that you have done for others, I thank you.

Today, when my husband went out to the car we are currently borrowing, he saw that the tire was compeltley flat and almost falling off the rim. He had to catch a ride from a neighbor, then I called him up and asked if he could run some errands, but he said he wasn't able to because the car tire was flat (I had no clue), as I went to the car to check on which tire it was, I saw a note on the driver's side window. It said "We saw your tire was flat, and we took care of it." This random act of selfless service has made my day (we weren't sure where the money was coming from to fix the tire).

So for all those acts you've done, thank you; you have made someones day.

That was really nice of them :)

Like you said, when you're doing it it doesn't seem like it matters so I don't know. I hold doors open for people, I smile and am polite. I help the other workers finish up at the end of the day.

But I've learned that sometimes random acts of kindness falls on deaf ears, as it were. For example when I was in school, I would often close the locks on lockers that were accidentally left open so they or the stuff in the locker wouldn't get stolen. I would tell them that they left their lock open so they would remember next time, and they would always say "thank you". But when I forget to close mine, it was gone the next morning. No one bothered looking out for me that time.

While this is just one example of this I still try to remember that people aren't always so selfish that they can't see beyond themselves and I do things like I mentioned above. But I learned that some people really don't care.

I think if you expect something in return, you'll always be disappointed. I just do it for the sake of doing it, regardless of the outcome. Makes me happier.
