Rant - Few things anger me more...

Few things anger me more than attempts to belittle crimes like rape, sexual assault, molestation, etc.

I just found this report at cnn.com about a man assaulting his own daughter and getting off easy for it: http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe/02/17/italy.abuse.reut/index.html

What do your respective religions feel about such crimes? What measures are taken to prevent them or protect from them? How is the victim treated? What happens to the perpetrator?

Kill them all............My grand daughter was molested when she was 3-4 years old by her uncle.......he got one year in jail........thats it. Since then we have found out that incest and molestations were frequent and went back several generations. Ughhhhhhhhhh! Burn them at the stake.

My religion? I'm not sure if my religion says anything about it. If it did, I imagine it would involve, in a humane manner, imprisoning the person for life without chance of parole. The victim would be treated for the abuse, both mental and physical, and, if willing, might be looked upon as having the experience of having survived such a thing, and the ability to empathize and to help others heal from it.

Please note that this is very different from my own, personal feelings on the matter, the nice version of which begining with something involving fire ants and a suit made of honey.

I think the major factore of my religion that prevents rape or sexual abuse has to do with there being much focus on god being female, or half female, or at least there being several hundred female gods out there. I haven't seen any studies, and I know this is hypothetical, but I would imagine that those who viewed their creator as females would be less likely to harm Her representatives down on earth.

Having been molested myself as a hild I can tell you it isn't something I'd wish on anyone. I make this statement at the beginning of my response so that you can know that this reality may color my thinking on the matter. Now, as to your questions:

I don't belong to an organized religion so I can't answer your first question.

You ask what is being done to protect children. My answer is that whatever is done must be done both in and out of religious organizations and on an ongoing basis. This must be done by all in socirty.

I also believe that victims of such crimes need professional help and counselling from a trained psychologist and not from a pastor.

As to what happens to the perpetrator I believe that is a matter for the courts to decide.

Does the time behind bars really matter? It's what is experienced in that time which will most impact the offenders. If a prisoners in one of those day-camp type prisons for 30 years with all the modern facilities including TVs etc, they're probably not going to feel terribly punished.

1 year in a prison full of proper reprobates with regular male rape and various other forced indecencies should be far more effective. Perhaps set up a special sex offenders prison with 80% reprobates who hate sex offenders and 20% sex offenders?

Make it very clear what will happen if they come back again and they won't want to.

That should be a little more effective, or at least the punishment will be more pertinent.
