Razan Al-Najjar: Palestinian medic who saved lives shot dead by Israeli sniper

To condense the article, the story was about a young Palestinian medic who apparently was less than a 100 yards from the fence where she ran with her hands up to attend to a protestor who was apparently injured. Paramedics arrived to assist both the man and Al Najjar but soon after assistance came shots rang out and Al Najjar fell to the ground. After being rushed to a nearby field hospital Al-Najjar was later pronounced dead. I think what made the article poignant with me was when her mother was there while they were working on Al Najjar, her mother lifted up her blood-soaked medical vest to say "this is my daughter's weapon with which she used to fight the Zionists," then pulled out two unopen bandaged rolls and said "these were her ammunition."

The loss of life whether you agree or disagree with the situation is tragic and is a political nightmare for the Israeli government. We can have a discussion about rock throwers and whether they're dangerous or not is one thing, but medical professionals wear certain colors for a reason. Now, I've read some critiques on this matter and of course, Neocons will always point to this being a plan by Hamas. But after seeing her brief story online I'm not so sure this young lady was ready for death. The more non-combatants die whether you agree with them being out there or not will definitely persuade the world on this matter concerning the issue between Palestinians and Israelis.

Few things are more inexcusable or more callous than to make excuses for crimes of governments.

The Netanyahu regime must go.

Not according to the UN, who said she was a clearly identified medical staffer where she was supposed to be, and already attending to a wounded elderly man.

Sometimes I wish I had a knack for politics. This situation makes me want to take both sides to the table and give them both a tongue lashing. I nearly cried reading more about the young lady because her father was simply proud of her for what she is doing. I had to put myself in her parents shoes (her father is 44 years old I believe). Jay I've never had a child before and I would hate to live in that region as a parent in such a tumultuous time. The blood of a child and in this case someone who has the right intent can be so infuriating and disheartening at the same time.

It is heart wrenching for a young woman and medical colleague to be shot dead for no reason other than courageously attending to those in need.

See post #8 she was clearly identified as a medical personnel (hence the vest as I've stated in the OP if you cared to read it).

So this "brave girl" was in the middle of a bunch of maniacs throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails at a heavily armed force defending their border and you think wearing a "medical vest" would keep her immune from a bullet? Evidently you are either naive or in denial.

Or you're being dehumanizing and cruel. And apparently unable to advocate for proper target acquisition by trained soldiers whom has been charged by the U.N. as using “excessive, disproportionate and indiscriminate force."

Would you put scare quotes around bravery in relation to medics in conflicts where both sides are equally armed with much more dangerous environments or are you just doing it to downplay the actions of a medic of side-I-don't-like?

Not sure of your point here. Why are you surprised that someone who embeds themselves in an active war zone (no matter the size or cause) would run the risk of being shot. Now you can rent your garment until the Second Coming but it doesn't change the fact that the Palestinians are just as much the blame for the girl's death as the Israelis.

Who said they were throwing Molotov cocktails? Yeah you’re reaching.

No they aren't.

Both sides are wrong, in my opinion and as always those that suffer are the innocent.
True.
But there are degrees of wrong.

Hamas regularly instigates violence. Israel, not so much.

It's not that IsraeI is entirely innocent either. But let's face it. Muslims are more inclined towards violence than Zionists. As a group, over all.
