Reconciliation - Humanity’s Next Challenge

After centuries of wars, political, religious, national and racial, the world has arrived at a critical junction where, with our interconnectedness being the new reality we must live with, reconciliation has become essential for our very survival.

But it is a long term process and the mindset that we need to develop to equip us for this new reality, if successful, could lead to a golden age of peace and prosperity for all.

However, in order to get there we need to accept all humanity as equals, unconditionally and as our family regardless of race, nationality, belief or non belief and gender. To do this we need to build bridges of friendship and love with our fellow co-religionist of whatever religion and not judge others by their ethnicity or the colour of their skin but see the humanity in each and all.

We will need a universal ethic which can be accepted by all. These quotes are just one example of an ethic which promotes universal brotherhood.

Regard ye not one another as strangers. Ye are the fruits of one tree, and the leaves of one branch.

Consort with the followers of all religions in a spirit of friendliness and fellowship.

Close your eyes to racial differences, and welcome all with the light of oneness.

(Baha’u’llah)

I’m sure that the Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Zoroastrian, Jew, humanist and those who have no religion can add words which promote our common humanity through this universal ethic for it must belong to all and be of all to work. And I invite you all to do this.

Our common humanity can bring us together but we must reconcile age old differences and a universal ethic agreed upon by all could pave the way for international harmony and peace.

I didn’t think the interfaith forum was suitable for this topic as I wished to include those of no Faith or religion who wish for a better world.

But the object here is to leave behind our conflicts (a supreme challenge) and try and look at what we have in common to build a better future.

It is indeed a challenge for us all as it is most likely that "The well-being of mankind, its peace and security, are unattainable unless and until its unity is firmly established."

Yet at the same time it is offered that "This unity can never be achieved so long as the counsels which the Pen of the Most High hath revealed are suffered to pass unheeded." ("Baha'u'llah)

So how do you see that will happen?

Maybe at community level?

In my opinion as long as greed and hunger for power exist, things won't change much.

It's not possible. Tribes gonna tribal. It was ever so and ever will be.

There is a great opportunity for us to embrace unity, from a Baha'i perspective, this is the vision for the future.

"The Great Peace towards which people of goodwill throughout the centuries have inclined their hearts, of which seers and poets for countless generations have expressed their vision, and for which from age to age the sacred scriptures of mankind have constantly held the promise, is now at long last within the reach of the nations. For the first time in history it is possible for everyone to view the entire planet, with all its myriad diversified peoples, in one perspective. World peace is not only possible but inevitable."

Universal Peace | What Bahá’ís Believe

Thus I love sharing that optimism.

Humans have made a lot of progress, and tons of progress in the last century alone. We're more tolerant, compassionate, and moral than we've ever been. The circle of moral consideration is even starting to expand to include other animals, even as it expands within humanity as we become less tribal.

I've heard moral theories that propose that as our education and resources increase, we naturally progress morally. That seems to bear out in the trends and data.

Still, sometimes I'm not sure if we'll make it, or whether our species really merits long-term survival. We'll see. We seem to have a lot of psychological flaws in our human brains. We have evolved to be tribal, reactionary based on fear and ignorance, see agency in the world where it doesn't exists, have confirmation bias, and fall victim to things like the Dunning-Kruger effect, mob hysteria, superstition, and conspiracy theories.

Whether we can socially evolve to overcome our biological flaws faster than these flaws lead to our destruction...we'll have to watch and find out.

How then were nations formed? At one stage that looked like never happening too but it did.

He's talking about global unity, universal ethics. That's what I see as impossible.

Regionally, it's always been possible, whether between tribes, kingdoms, nation states, nations, alliances between nations.

Those counsels include a call to love, compassion, trustworthiness, truthfulness, and justice.

Good question for you to ask! We may very well get close to our destruction. Getting close to our destruction could be the catalyst to getting our world together in a semblance of unity. Only a semblance at first, but it's possible for it to grow from there.

I see your perspective. Up to now, there has always been a common enemy to hold these entities together. Now, the enemy is the whole human race. We must hold together or we'll self-destruct.

But in ancient times there were already great empires. Maybe a little coercion was used in keeping people in line. Probably a little coercion to get the people to believe in the religions and maybe to believe the king was divine. But now, with what is happening in the U.S., it wouldn't take much for a nation to crumble.

The common enemy then could be selfish, greedy people that don't care if they are destroying the planet and people's lives?

Hi CG. I am a great believer in the goodness of people. I really believe that we have enough goodness to make this world into a great place. But the problem is people don’t realise their own potential and underestimate just how much they can contribute, so people need lots of encouragement and hope and once they have enough confidence, they will contribute to the betterment of humanity in their own way.

No one group or race or nation can alone better our world. All of us working together for the greater good can achieve that. And I believe humanity will overcome its inertia and begin to tackle the most challenging problems together and we will succeed.

As life is diverse we accept diversity without personal abuse allowed.

As personal abuse is human versus human as the behaviour pattern.

Law has to be established first as the common unified agreement. Reasoned factually by defined human rights. To be diverse.

Thesis about past human behaviours and how human behaviour....dress...personality....constantly changes. Proven it occurs itself. Did before.

If you know why wrong human behaviour started historic it allows community to strategise commonality again. Mutual sharing of a humans rights.

Earth supported our water and food needs and shelter conditions first.

Naturally. Which has to be reassessed as an abuse used against humanity today.

The nature plus human consciousness allowed for family by the healer to be medically attended. Changed.

It needs to be given back its family status. Taken in the dark ages into strange behaviours.

Telling the truth for humans as humans being a human is first. As the subject is only human life as the human. The focus a human.

A basic starting place.

That's right.
Those in power, even here in the U.S., don't change easily. I'm thinking of the High School students who protested against guns and gun violence. Nothing ever seems to happen, since lots of political leaders are in favor of guns and gun laws. Then at some point, what used to be a peaceful protest, goes bad.

Humans natural life natural living conditions in balances first.
