I think if so many youth are signing up to vote, it is because they feel that there is a pressing need for them to vote, a danger that they must try to avert, something that they must change. I know a lot of my friends who normally probably wouldn't have voted hurried to get registered because they honestly felt the needed to try to do something to get Bush out of office. I don't think the Republican youths feel quite as much of a threat to their way of life (since their representative is in office this very minute). Thus, I doubt they feel as pressing a need to get registered to vote as Democratic/liberal youth do. Also, I know for a fact that a few of my Republican friends are vehemently anti-Bush, and will most likely be voting Democratic in this particular election (though they'll probably switch back to Republican if they manage to get Kerry into office). Thus, my guess is that a good chunk of these new voters are Democrats.
