regulation of something vs. people acting 'well' without being told

I'm going to bed, so I don't have time to write a long op. This is just about your view on regulation via political policy (any you prefer), vs. people just acting 'well,' however you define that, without needing regulation

Because that seems to a big part of all political debates , or it is at the subconscious of it maybe.

I think I would prefer if people act well, without having to tell anyone anything at all. I know I've said in the past, that maybe regulation is for people's own good. But if that makes them unhappy, maybe it's not for the best, and it wouldn't work out.

My ma or grandma said to me when I was a kid, 'I shouldn't have to tell you to do the dishes.' I don't know

It doesn't matter what views you actually have, because this question isn't actually about that, specifically
