I was curious of where these souls that are reincarnated come from? Are there any new souls that form as time goes on and the population increases?

Thanks Zenzero...Friend W,
Firstly *frubals* for your question; it is a sign of your search!
Response;
Personal understanding is that *consciousness* is the core or Taoism calls it *nothingness*. This consciousness is eternal and unlimited besides is expanding.
Out of this Nothingness forms and no-forms comes out and keeps evolving and in this process different forms are dying and new ones emerging the same consciousness keeps evolving higher and higher. The latest to evolve are Humans and after Humans? could be superhumans! BUT whatever it be, it has to be superior kind.
As you can understand the process keeps on going and some species are dying becoming extinct and new ones discovered are all part of evolution where rebirth is the part of the process.
Yes we do find that Abrahmanic religions have not given much clues about the subject that is because of the focus. Men in those parts of the world were not civilised and nomads and to make them aware of awareness or consciousness or god or Brahma or nothingness is an achievement which Moses, Jesus and Muhammud did. Not that those enlighetened people did not understand the whole evolutionary nature of existence BUT they had limited time and so was focused in giving them set of laws to follow as when they follow a path they too become enlightened and realize the whole eternal law. Yes it is unfortunate that today some have taken these laws without the understanding through their biased minds and kept Satan very much alive for god to balance it out.

All souls are eternal,so no beginning or end. The idea is that all life forms move up the ladder to become a human being. According to Advaita Vedanta individuality is ultimately an illusion so the soul being separate from the whole of God is an illusion also. We are all One. This One we call God.
Our Guardian Shoghi Effendi stated: Regarding the questions you asked: self has really two meanings, or is used in two senses, in the Baháí writings; one is self, the identity of the individual created by God. This is the self mentioned in such passages as he hath known God who hath known himself, etc. The other self is the ego, the dark, animalistic heritage each one of us has, the lower nature that can develop into a monster of selfishness, brutality, lust and so on. It is this self we must struggle against, or this side of our natures, in order to strengthen and free the spirit within us and help it to attain perfection.--Messages to Canada, Letter of 10 December 1947, pg. 99
Saying is use of words and am one in understanding Lao Tzu when he opened the Tao Te Ching with the verse stating that *words falsify*.I was going to say what Wannabe Yogi said, LOL.

The souls represent one aspect of God. As God is eternal, so is anything that is a part of God. So there is no begining or end of existence for you and I although this exterior, this body, will only last temporarily.
God is limitless and I think it is universally believed that there are unlimited souls.
I am not sure if you understand what a soul is in the Hindu context. It is little different from what Christians (for instance) refer to. For a Hindu, the soul represents the actual self. The body is not the self. When you take away the senses and thought that are associated with the body you are left with consciousness. That consciousness is you (the soul).
