How do you know when it is time to reject a text? I rejected one yesterday on the basis of it not following the golden rule (Jewish text, a mishna) when I've heard the Talmud summed up as follow the golden rule. So I knew something was wrong. But as a historical text it well.... was historical at the very least. So not invalid for some people's beliefs on how they should act, even though it contradicted several good old testament stories.
But I'm unaware of some hermeunetical precedent saying "Golden Rule Trumps Every Time". Old testiment God at least didn't quite say that, did he?
The question I was researching was minor but the finding was disturbing, and seemed contradictory.... but Aristotle's Square isn't the end all to how the human mind knows a contradiction.
So how do you know when you are dealing with something wrong and should reject it? Is the whole text rejected or only part?
