Religions, Controlled by man or god?

Who do you think controls religion, man or god? People say some scriptures which are the basis of some religion, were inspired by god. Who do you think is in control?

Even revealed, writ-in-stone sorts of religion seem to change to suit current tastes and customs.
I have to conclude that man changes, re-interprets and generally tailors religion to suit his own needs.

I vote for women. They're in control of everything.

How does the concept of hell suit anyones needs?

Preist says, "If you don't do X, you'll go to hell."

Perhaps need is the wrong word, but we can imagine how the preists needs and desires are met with this effective tool.

If religious writings were not truly inspired by God and written only by man.....the mention of hell would be used to keep people in line morally.

I actually took Seyorni's statement of "man" to mean the entirety of the Church. Not just the hierarchy. But yeah, I see how he meant it now.

I gotcha, but what need does this fulfill the local priest exactly? If it's all bogus, why would he care about moral order?

If God does not exist humans still have value.

Religion is something people do.

The local priest cares about religious moral order because it's what he believes in and has been educated to perform. Is that what you're getting at?

As far as the OP.....I think man controls the church to a large degree today. We just hope the Holy Spirit is called upon to intervene often. We certainly see faulty behaviours within the church that we can't blame on God.

Depends who you ask, don't it?
Certainly I agree, but attaching meaning is subject to people's needs and wants.
