Reorganized

My mother is a Reorganized Latter Day Saint and I was raised one as well as baptized in the church. I was walking around town a few days ago when two Mormons walked up to me and started up a conversation with me. After the dust settled, they asked me about my religion. When I told them that I belonged the the RLDS, a very surprised look came about their faces and shortly thereafter they ended the conversation and continued walking past me. I know our churches differ in more ways than one, and I am well educated on the past of our two churches. My question is, are LDS members taught to deny our church or shun it at the least? I know it is CoC now, but I still say RLDS.

Not in the slightest. They were probably just surprised to find someone that was RLDS and didn't know what to say...

We are taught not to shun any other religion. I really don't know much about the RLDS church, so maybe they just weren't sure what to say? Or didn't really know enough about it?

Not at all. We rarely talk about other Churches, because our focus isn't other Churches/sects/faiths. It's our faith on Jesus Christ -- our Lord and Saviour.

From my experience, members of some of the reorganized churches are much more hostile towards LDS than LDS are towards them. I don't know why they acted that way as I wasn't there. They probably just didn't know what to say and didn't think you were interested in what they had to say anyway.

Most LDS know little about the RLDS / CoC. Certainly most of the elders, sister missionaries I have spoken to over the years know nothing about the RLDS & the one who did had family members in the Temple Lot.

I imagine they realized you were well acquainted with the LDS church and so there was no sense in trying to tell you about it again.

I agree. The don't know much more other than they exist and were started by Joseph Smith's family. The LDS church really does not spend a lot of time teaching its members about other religions in its church meetings. A member would have to research it on their own if they wanted information.
