Report: James Dobson claims mandate

James Dobson recently wrote a letter to one million of his followers in which he threatened to retaliate against any U.S. Senators who dare to obstruct President Bush's judical nominations.

In his letter, he is quoted as saying, "Republicans have been given [by the recent election] a mandate to impose a Christian lifestyle on America."

I heard this report on a local radio talk show. I have not been able to independently confirm that those were Dobson's words. But it sounds like him.

First, does anyone know anything more about this?

Second, what do you think about the notion that the recent elections give Republicans a mandate to impose a Christian lifestyle on this nation (regardless of whether that's Dobson's opinion or not)?

Jaymes

The cake is a lie
I know nothing at all about James Dobson, sorry. That quote honestly makes me want to curl up and shiver for a while, though.

... if they imposed a Christian lifestyle, does that mean we'd stop the war in Iraq?

LOL I think James Dobson believes that Christianity is what James Dobson says it is, and that anyone who might disagree with what James Dobson says it is is in error.

I find it interesting that he sent out ONE million letters - doesn't sound as though he believes to strongly that the rest of the nation got the Mandate.

I wonder why people like this even bother - why not cut to the chase and have their armed militia overthrow the government altogether - you know - speed up the process!!

Have you seen the members of those armed militias?
They wouldn`t get too far.

I think it means they`d institute a draft and expand it into Iran and Syria first thing.

Now you're talking! Let's have a draft that will fairly select members from all stratas of our society! Yea, that's the ticket!
What's that you say? None of the politicians at the federal or state level will have any kids subject to the draft? Well.... that could be a problem. Maybe we'll have to convince the multitudes of the righteousness of the war. ;)
No - that won't work - they would be smart enough not to buy that line of crap, wouldn't they?

Oh my - what's a world leader to do?

I've been able to confirm that Dobson sent a letter to one million of his followers warning six senators that they should not oppose Bush's judicial nominations, but I have not been able to confirm that part of the text of the letter has Dobson claiming that the last election gives Republicans a mandate to impose a Christian lifestyle on America.

For some mysterious reason, Dobson doesn't have me on his mailing list, so I didn't get a copy of the letter myself. :(

I wonder if Dobson is fronting for the White House?

Not to worry, Sunstone - I'll fax you a photocopy of mine, as soon as it gets here. The US Mail must have a screwup somewhere, becuase I haven't gotten mine yet either. ;)

I'm sure that Dobson thinks he is going to impact a Senator, but I'm willing to bet that he doesn't. The only ones that will be "warned" are those that get their votes from the Religious Right already - and trust me, they know who they are.
