Republican candidates?

I was there/here doing photography! I live in Charlottesville and have the full context of all that happened!

Politico says you need the context of the full speech which you can read here.

Within the (2) sides there were "good people", that is people who were protesting NOT causing violence. But there were also violent ANTIFA and white supremacist's within the crowds who fought.
I agree, @cOLTER

Trump was trying to be generous and, I think, a peacemaker, by recognizing there were indeed bad actors on both sides, but that there was also good people on both sides too. I don't think it was the smartest thing to say, but it wasn't a dog whistle either. There is NO DOUBT, the media absolutely hates Trump and everything he stands for IN THEIR IMAGINATION. That does not mean they are NOT craven enough to seize every opportunity to castigate him, as others have so eloquently said, to make obscene profits. The downside for Trump is that he gives them so much red meat to chew on. Most of the hysteria about Trump is his own fault, imho.

I do agree that one cannot believe anything in the media about Trump beyond the headlines. The opinion and analysis are always dripping with Trump Derangement Syndrome and are in no way reliable. For the record, I am not a Trump supporter.

From what I read, De Sanity Clause is essentially a fake, trying to out-Trump Trump with ever more ludicrously right-wing positions that he seems to have adopted in an ad-hoc manner, simply to be more Trumpy than the Orange One himself. And it shows: he seems to have a wooden personality as well.

The one that strikes me as halfway sensible is Chris Fatso Christie. But he seems to have little hope. The Republican party is still in the grip of a personality cult, which is causing it to make itself the enemy of both the democratic process and the justice system.
Never underestimate your opponents. Doing so did not go so well for Saint Hillary.

Sorry, but I have to ask.
Can you get disqualified from running as president in the States?
Yes.
US Constitution, Fourteenth Amendment, Section 3:
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

January 6th might qualify, especially if it is proved that Trump tried to make Mike Pence reject the electors. He swore to uphold the Constitution in his oath of office, and then tried to undermine the Constitution to stay in power, breaking his oath of office. I seriously doubt that Trump can get two-thirds of each House to vote to excuse such an action.

I’m a liberal but I see Christie as the safest republican as i trust he will follow the law. The rest seem to be kneeling at the altar of MAGA. Tim Scott might be the safest bet for democrats since many conservative racists will not vote. And Haley is a woman from India and will turn off conservatives too.

Christie, I read, being a fellow New Yorker with experience of the criminal fraternity, has got Trump's number.

The media is populated by and dominated by (D). Its from 2014 but very revealing:

Survey: 7 percent of reporters identify as Republican

Survey: 7 percent of reporters identify as Republican

2022

9. More Journalists Say They Are Democrats

Compared with 2013, the percentage of full-time U.S. journalists who claim to be Democrats has increased 8 percentage points in 2022 to about 36 percent, a figure higher than the overall population percentage of 27 percent, according to a 2022 ABC News/Washington Post national poll. This is the third highest percentage of journalists saying they are Democrats since 1971.

Journalists who said they were Republicans continued to drop from 18 percent in 2002 and 7.1 percent in 2013 to 3.4 percent in 2022. This figure is notably lower than the percentage of U.S. adults who identified with the Republican party (26 percent according to the poll mentioned earlier) in 2022. About half of all journalists (51.7 percent) said they were Independents, which is about 12 percentage points above the figure for all U.S. adults (40 percent). Overall, U.S. journalists today are much more likely to identify themselves as Independents rather than Democrats or Republicans—a pattern similar to 2013.

Key Findings From The 2022 American Journalist Study

We observe Republicans having a difficult time with ethics, and reputable reporting requires ethics. When I was in journalism in high school and college they drilled into our heads that objectivity is crucial. With the internet there has been more opportunities for poor quality media and many unskilled thinkers are attracted to it. When i see RF members cite poor quality media in their posts they reveal their low standards.

Because I feel like if any of our politicians were involved in a trial that was the equivalent of the Indictment Trump is currently going through, they’d never be able to serve in office again. Never mind run for the top job.
And I come from a literal country of criminals, for crying out loud ;)

From what I understand, only if he were impeached. That's why the democrats tried so hard.

If it does come to this, then this would be an excellent opportunity to see which congress-critters support the Constitution AND take their oaths of office seriously.

The US Constitution. Specifically, the 14th Amendment, Section 3, which states,

The evidence that has come out due to multiple court cases and indictments are enough for the GOP to have shut him down but they're as corrupt as he is and only care about gathering power. His inevitable convictions will disqualify him but you see politicians and the media still pretending it's debatable.

Yes, unfortunately it looks as if the Republicans have not learned the Trump is just a con job yet.
Yes, Trump is a con job and the Republicans have yet to learn that. But I also think it’s important for the Left to look in the mirror and ask themselves what is it about the Left that drives Republicans to such a con man.

I feel both parties combat each other with extremism. I would absolutely love for a moderate candidate to excite the populace so we could start negotiating and moving to center again rather than pulling further a part.

Oh the left is far from perfect. There is no doubt about that. But one has to keep these differences in perspective.

The problem is that the world is changing and those in the Republican party do not see to understand that.

That's because the state will do what it wants to do. The Constitution may say that but it also bans tests of faith to hold public office but they happen anyways.

I think the reality is, to use some religious terminology, Republican's made a deal with the devil because there is an intellectual bankruptcy in the Conservatism in general, and in the Republican Party, writ large. What I am meaning by this is Conservatives & Republicans have not come up with any good ideas in a very long time. Where are the William F. Buckley's for example? They abandoned the Republican Party at the dawn of Trump. It's almost as if my folks have stood on the shoulders of giants from the past while claiming the right to their intellectual property in the present. Is that too harsh? Meanwhile, society has been hit by tidal wave after tidal wave of initiatives from our dear friends on the left and we have nothing to counter it all with - whatsoever.

What I am saying is, Trump is plan A and there simply is no plan B. Personally, I would have preferred if Ron DeSantis had sat this one out entirely and let Trump implode on his own. If he played his cards right, he would have owned the nomination in 2028, likely with Trump's support. Now, who knows?

Why place any blame on Democrats? What do you suggest, Democrats be more corrupt so they appeal to citizens who are attracted to corruption? How about questioning the conservative base and their values?

What is extreme about democrats? The extreme on the right is lack of accountability, anti-science, anti-freedom such as reproductive rights and gender identity issues and voting rights, and extreme gerrymandering as we see in Alabama as tge republicans ignore a SC order to redraw congressional maps.

As Trump continues to defy the Judge's orders in the Documents Case, what actually happens if the Judge decides to revoke bail -- and remand him in custody? The real question being this: do the court officers go to battle with the Secret Service over whether Trump goes to jail or back to Bedminster?

That oughta be very, very interesting!

Regardless of how horrible of a personality Trump is the justice system is being exploited for political purposes. It began after Hillary Clinton bought the (D) party but still lost. Consider this, as toxic as Trump is he's running even with Biden! Thats how bad Biden is!
It's not "political" or "exploitations" to hold people accountable for their crimes.

The Lefty news, like CNN, which is broadcast world wide, is trying to undermined all Republican Candidates. They fear Trump the most, so you cannot trust their judgement. They pushed the Russian Collusion Coup narrative. They are as dumb as a stump, and are just are talking heads, controlled by their puppet masters in the DNC. In America, if you flip to all the Liberals news outlets, each time a new narrative is released; DeSantis is evil, they all; TV, internet and print, say the exact same thing, like all are reading the same puppet script. It is comical and not very organic.

Trump is still very popular and is gaining, since he is seen as a victim of the dual injustice system. Trump was impeached for trying to uncover the Biden Family influence peddling business in Ukraine. The impeachment stunt did not succeed, but was designed to make justice temporarily look shady, and shady look just.

The House investigative committee, is now showing all types of proof of Biden Family influence peddling with more countries than just Ukraine. They have uncorked over 20 shell companies use dot move money arounds which trigger dozens of IRS tax evasion triggers.

This proof was buried behind the theater of the dual injustice system, led by the Democrats. When Trump was accused of Russian Collusion, since he was innocent, he gave millions of pages of requested documents in a timely fashion. The Democrats have slowed walked this; delay and delay, since the time of the Trump impeachment. Innocent people will share, while the guilty will stall. That is my experience. They may need to impeach Biden, since by doing that it will become illegal to further stall document requests and witness testimony. Those who conspired will have their day in court. The Democrats will play the victim card. They are predictable.

Biden is senile and corrupt, so why would any political party push him on the country? He and his VP are not the best suited for that tough job. My guess is the radial left, in the Democrat party is blackmailing Biden, into servicing their bonehead agenda. They know where the skeletons are buried and will use this if needed. The swamp is not 100% loyal to anyone but themselves. Biden was never as far Left as he is today. It smells of Democrat Party blackmail.
This riveting tale has it all; straw men, cogitative dissonance, mental gymnastics, non sequiturs, conspiracy theories, etc.
