Rhode Island mistakenly sends tax refund checks signed by Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse

Rhode Island issued tax refund checks signed by Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse - CNN

The misprint was a result of a technical glitch in the Division of Taxation's automated refund check printing system, according to Jade Borgeson, chief of staff for the state's Department of Revenue.

Mickey and Walt's invalid signature lines were accidentally sourced from the Division of Taxation's test print files, Borgeson said. The names of the state treasurer Seth Magaziner and state controller Peter Keenan should have been on the checks.

The checks were mailed to taxpayers Monday and were related to various business taxes, including sales tax, corporate and tax credit refunds. A majority of them were corporate tax refunds, Borgeson said.

So, I guess this means that Rhode Island's Department of Revenue is a Mickey Mouse operation?

Scrooge McDuck was quite angry at getting a bogus check signed by a fictional rodent.

To anyone who got one of those checks....
Save them!
They will be worth money as collectibles.
The state can send the refund another way.

Maybe this is a way to ease us in to a different form of currency, what with the shortages of coins and all the hullabaloo over whose picture is on paper money. This is what our money will look like soon.

It's pretty common to use obvious fake names like "Mickey Mouse" in testing. They do this because:

- it (usually) makes it immediately obvious when you're using test data versus real data.

- it makes it clear to everyone that real personal information isn't being used for testing, when normal privacy controls might not be in place.

Sounds like someone imported some things over from the testing environment to the production environment without paying close enough attention.

Disney clearly has better quality control than Rhode Island.
You'll notice that Disney never accidentally has its checks
signed by Seth Magaziner or Peter Keenan.

It's odd that no one actually looked at the checks they printed.
Tis as though they just hit the <print> button, & head home
for the day. Whatever happens will happen, eh. Just SEP.

You never know. Maybe that MickeyMouse you meet at the park is actually the CEO.

Was it Goofy who had the prints ran while Baloo was signing and dancing instead of doimg quality inspection?
