Richard Dawkins had a stroke!

It's probably not going to nudge him towards god, be any sort of eye opener, or any other such things. When I developed IBS, it was a very anxiety-plagued time because the symptoms are similar to symptoms of a ton of other things, including some forms of cancer. But it didn't get me thinking anymore about god, or thinking that maybe I should seek god's forgiveness, or anything else like that - I remained steadfast in my not knowing and not caring.
Maybe he is another type of person and more fortunate.

One could get an eye-opener in a moment, a whole "A whole 3 hours 31 minutes." is a lot of moments for enlightenment. Isn't Dawkins an open mind?

Probably not in the manner you're aiming for. I had plenty of moments that were eye-opening when I was rushed into triage, where I faced with how numbness on the whole right side of my body might cause irreparable damage or my own demise.

I opened my eyes to the fragility of mortality, the kindness of strangers who wanted to take care of me, and loved my family and friends impossibly more than ever.

A deity actually never came into the equation for me on how my experience was at all enlightening.

First of all Ben Stein is a horrible person that lied to several people to get them in his movie.

Second of all, mathematically speaking it is improbable that other life does not exist.

The idea of aliens existing is much less ludicrous than the idea of a being that defies physics.
Firstly...he seems to be.....but then so does Dawkins...

Secondly...show me your math?

Both are real....

Funny how you believe subscribing to some ideology from 7th century arabia counts as "enlightenment".
Have you ever considered that it could be the other way around, and that Dawkins' perspective is more "enlightened" than yours?

Not funny at all. Life, sickness, near-death and death are sober and serious matters, they are subjects of all times as long as humanity exists, till such times G-d who created the above ends them all, the will be the Day of Judgement:

[1:1]In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.
[1:2]All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds,
[1:3]The Gracious, the Merciful,
[1:4]Master of the Day of Judgment.

But that would be another dimension, we cannot comprehend except through the Word of Revelation by G-d bestowed on His prophets.

Oh, one is coughing, sorry. Better have some good medicine from a doctor, no harm if one prays also for recovery:
[26:79]‘Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me;
[26:80]‘And Who gives me food and gives me drink;
[26:81]‘And when I am ill, it is He Who restores me to health;
[26:82]‘And Who will cause me to die, and then bring me to lifeagain;
[26:83]‘And Who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the Day of Judgment.

He seems like an attention whore.

He heals you if you give him attention and tortures you if you do not.

@AllThoseWantingToSpreadReligionOutOfZealotry: You do realize it takes more than a stroke to make someone change ideas. Ideas are not the same as bad habits. Though ALL Christian Zealots would think not being a Christian is a bad habit...and that is a problem. Besides why is this thread even here? It belongs in the current events section...not that it would have made a difference.

@Nietzsche : Correct!

Yes, lots of people throughout the ages have been afraid of their own mortality, and have thus dreamt up ideas of an "afterlife". Sadly they all lack credible evidence as their claims conveniently cannot be tested empirically.

How come you don't chnage your mind and subscribe to an ancient Egyptian mythology then, if you're so convinced by their concept and depiction of afterlife?

I hope he recovers well and smoothly. Sending good vibes his way!

I wonder how many people will use this to "remind" him that he should "return to God" as he gets older and his death approaches.

Hitch-style, you mean? Oh well, worth remembering that just because some theists are butt-clowns doesn't follow that theists are butt-clowns.
Just like it doesn't follow that all atheists are charming, just because I am.

Ahem...

Get well, RD.

Dawkins said people with disabilities thier lives are not worth living .
Be interesting to see if he stands by his words and heads for Switzerland should his stroke leave him disabled.
What I find interesting is how some people seem to have no problem lying like this.
