I thought it was surprisingly good. I was honestly expecting mediocrity, if not something downright stupid, but I thought it was a very well-told story with (mostly) engaging characters. The action was good, growing out of the story and not really overstaying its welcome, and the chimp character of Caesar (played by Gollum) was VERY good.
There were also a lot of nice nods and send-offs to the original movie besides the obligatory "damn dirty ape" line (which, by the way, was BRILLIANTLY done here), so if you've seen it (and if you haven't, shame on you), you'll at least smile at those.
There were some problems, of course. The girlfriend was, sadly, deadweight, and the corporate guy was... well, the corporate guy from every other movie that character has been in since the 80s (well, okay, in the interest of fairness, he was better written and better acted in this one, but he's still just as two-dimensional). I don't count the not-science as a flaw, though, since science fiction is supposed to take absurd nonsense and make it look scientifically plausible within the context of the story, and they did it well here.
So, yeah, I recommend this movie.
