First post!
Have you noticed widespread signs of seismic activity through out Bible/Old Testament? And wondered how they contributed to creation of the religions?
Let’s look at the mother Earth from different perspective!
The Mediterranean is ultimately prone to tectonic (and volcanic) activity as a result of the collision of the African plate into the western portion of the Eurasian plate. This is Cleary visible in the entire story of the Bible which can be summarized by its association with earthquakes.
The source of the Trinity that Egypt had known for thousands of years was based on the Holy Trinity, the Father God Osiris, the Mother Goddess Isis, and the Son Horus can also be trace down to the geological state of Nile. The term delta comes from the upper-case Greek letter delta (Δ), which is shaped like a triangle. Deltas with this triangular or fan shape are called arcuate (arc-like) deltas. The Nile River forms an arcuate delta as it empties into the Mediterranean Sea, this is also can be postulated as Biblical Trinity. (“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command to you today shall be on your heart.)
Would that tell us anything about incoming events in the future? And where possibly that can happen?
“The Valley of Decision is a biblical name given to the Valley of Jehoshaphat by the prophet Joel. It is the location of Jehovah's inflictions on Zion's enemies (earthquakes and seismic forces?) . The Bible mentions the Valley of Jehoshaphat only twice and identifies it as the final place where God (seismic activity?) will judge the nations that will gather in this valley. The apostle John wrote of a “great earthquake” in the future associated with the opening of the “sixth seal” (Revelation 6:12). This earthquake will be the precursor to the greatest earthquake since men have been on the earth. This greatest earthquake will occur in association with the “seventh bowl” at a place called Armageddon (Revelation 16:16-20). This future “Armageddon earthquake” or “Messiah’s earthquake” will be associated with the return of Christ to Jerusalem (Acts 1:9-11; Zechariah 14:1-11) ,”
Kidron Valley is the modern name of the valley originating slightly northeast of the Old City of Jerusalem, which then separates the Temple Mount from the Mount of Olives, and ending at the Dead Sea. Beyond Jerusalem it continues in a general south-easterly direction through the Judean desert in the West Bank, reaching the Dead Sea near the settlement of Ovnat .
There are narratives in the old text which could be translated into Seismic activities:
Zechariah 14:3-4 Then the Lord (Earthquake??) will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights on a day of battle. 4 On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. 5 You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, and all the holy ones with him.6 On that day there will be neither sunlight nor cold, frosty darkness. 7 It will be a unique day—a day known only to the Lord—with no distinction between day and night. When evening comes, there will be light.8 On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it east to the Dead Sea and half of it west to the Mediterranean Sea, in summer and in winter.
The most famous ones probably is:
Moses guided the Israelites out of captivity in Egypt and into the Promised Land. God showed them the way by appearing to them as a pillar of cloud (Volcanic activities?) by day and a pillar of fire by night (Exodus 13:21-22).
And other narratives:
“And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open.”54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”.
Samuel1-Then panic struck the whole army—those in the camp and field, and those in the outposts and raiding parties—and the ground shook. It was a panic sent by God.
1 Kings 19:11 11 “Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the LORD told him. And as Elijah stood there, the LORD passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the LORD was not in the wind.
Matthew 27:51 -51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and[a] went into the holy city and appeared to many people.
Revelation 16:16-2016 Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18 Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake.
19 The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20 Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found.
Joshua 62 Then the Lord said to Joshua,…………..4 Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. 5 When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout (Seismic event?); then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.”
JOEL 3-16 The sun and the moon shall be darkened (Dust storm?) , and the stars shall withdraw their shining.
The LORD(seismic event ) also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.
Hebrews 12:18-2118 You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm(Volcanos); 19 to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them, 20 because they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death(Volcano).” 21 The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”
Exodus 19-16 On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, with a thick cloud over the mountain (Volcanic activities?), and a very loud trumpet blast. Everyone in the camp trembled.
17 Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18 Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the Lord descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently. 19 As the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and the voice of God answered him.
Matthew 24:1–51Ma Jesus then left the Temple. As he walked away, his disciples pointed out how very impressive the Temple architecture was. Jesus said, “You’re not impressed by all this sheer size, are you? The truth of the matter is that there’s not a stone in that building that is not going to end up in a pile of rubble.”
Ex. 19:18Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the Lord descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain[a] trembled violently.
Luke. 21. 11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers’ places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
Genesis 7:11In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened (Tsunamis?).
Numbers 16:31-3531 As soon as he finished saying all this, the ground under them split apart 32 and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and their households, and all those associated with Korah, together with their possessions.
33 They went down alive into the realm of the dead, with everything they owned; the earth closed over them, and they perished and were gone from the community.
34 At their cries, all the Israelites around them fled, shouting, “The earth is going to swallow us too!”35 And fire came out from the Lord and consumed the 250 men who were offering the incense.
And one may wonder how all these seismic evets contributed to 3 major belief systems? And what causes such strong geological events in that area?
Evolution of of Human consciousness! What roles seismic activities played in regards to the theory below?
And please share verses you know in Judaism, Christianity or Islam referring to Seismic activities.
And Thoughts?
Thanks In the advance!
