I think Americans are like that in general. They think hollywood is Mt Olympus. That is why a lot of Americans go on shows like Idols. They too want to become demigods and worshipped. So then it is actually a good marketing tactic for Dems to get support from celebs because people look up to them. In reality celebs are mere entertainers. Media companies banning or restricting people from saying things that go against their values isn't a threat to free speech. Neither is protesting against people. Just counter protest or start your own platform. People can still host their own websites or go to alternative platforms that accommodate them too.

ACTUAL threats to free speech is when these people "disappear", or are brutally suppressed with force.

As I said in a reply just now, Trump being elected as president is the ultimate form of this celebrity worship. Whereas as Dems are "polytheistic", Reps are monotheistic with Trump being Jehovah and the religious leaders being archangels.
