Learned something the hard way? Share your wisdom here with you fellow RF'ers.

I'll go first.

Rule #1 Be very careful who you trust. As a general rule, trust no one.

Rule no two; Regardless of rule number one, trust people at random anyway every now and again. Amazing things happen.

Rule #3 Death is inevitable. Most of the things we worry about are based on the illusion of control and we can't do much about them any way. We can't chose if we die, but we can decide how to face it. As counter-intutitive as it may seem, by accepting it; you'll learn to worry less, forgive people, ignore the gossip and trivia that passes for debate these days and get on doing the things you like and enjoy doing. life is a one way trip- make it special.

#4: Do not give in to learned helplessness. Success and happiness will never be given to you, you need to achieve them yourself.

Related rule #5: When you succeed in something, be proud of yourself. Recognize the help from others where it is due, but learn to enjoy what you have. (This is known as the impostor syndrome and is far more common than you'd think.)

Avoid expectations. They are the highway to disappointment. Instead, let life surprise you... some surprises are really good.

Words of wisdom?....

Forgive the idiots of the world even if that mostly means having to forgive yourself.

Rule 8:
Ensure that your tube of foot fungus creme doesn't look like your toothpaste.

Btw, the risk is not that you'll have unexpectedly minty fresh toes.

Rule #9 - Question Everything. If it can't stand up to a little scrutiny, it's not real.

Rule #10 - If it's not real, let it go.

(These applies to everything, and therefore should be questioned.)
