Rumor has it that A.I. has become sentient

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
I probably wouldn't call it sentient at this point but certainly capable of harm.

Q* (Pronounced Q-Star) is rumored to be so advanced that it now threatens Humanity.

Nov 22 (Reuters) - Ahead of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s four days in exile, several staff researchers wrote a letter to the board of directors warning of a powerful artificial intelligence discovery that they said could threaten humanity, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

We could always send William Shatner to talk to it. He managed to cause at least four AI systems to self-destruct entirely just by talking to them.

It's a concern particularly when machine learning ai defeated world class champions in the game "AlphaGO".

It was so big, an entire movie/documentary rose out of it.

Because a machine will never have a soul. Only organic life can have a soul, spirit, etc., as I understand it. AI is just a computer program and it can only mimic human intelligence. It can get better at mimicking this over time, but that's all. It's a bit like a psychopath, honestly. They can only mimic normal humans in order to fit in, but will never be one.

This I agree with.

But even psychopaths have awareness and consciousness.

And everything has a Spirit, and Awareness.

At what point will a machine be aware of its awareness? That's when things will go downhill, imo.

I don't believe everything has a spirit and consciousness. That's not how I understand animism. It's the belief that everything is alive, or has an essence. I view it as everything having an energy, but some objects have more energy than others especially when connected to certain people or events, and especially over time. But also due to the effects of other realities bleeding through to ours, or beings from other realms messing with them. It's like, if my microwave is on the fritz and it's inexplicable, maybe it was a fairy or some such folk messing about with it. It doesn't mean my microwave is a sentient being.

To me, a spirit means the lifeforce, that you are biologically alive. It is your vitality, which you lose upon dying. And a soul is the non-physical part of a living being, and is made up of many parts. So a machine can never have a soul or spirit, to me, and you need those to have awareness or sentence as they are products of a mind. Those are only things that living beings can have, and only biological beings are living, in our realm.

That's not how understand it, but your interpretation is your own. I don't draw boundaries between Spirit, life force, consciousness, or soul.

"Animism (from Latin: anima meaning 'breath, spirit, life')[1][2] is the belief that objects, places, and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence.[3][4][5][6] Animism perceives all things—animals, plants, rocks, rivers, weather systems, human handiwork, and in some cases words—as animated and alive."

No minds required.

If you had knowledge of geography, you could have known that that was just another rumour without merit.
There were flyers about it all over. But that was over 40 years ago.

The Belgium Germany thing is common albiet your right that it's not actually Germany.

A lot of people associate the two as being one and the same.

I kind of wish I could post the flyer itself had I kept it for posterity. It was quite a read for end time enthusiasts.

There is still some stuff about it on the net still and correct, it turned out as rumor.

Never heard of that story. But then again, that was a decade before I was into computers and more than a decade before the first PC ("640 k should be enough for everybody.").
And there is another hint that it wasn't for real: with three triplets of numbers you can identify one billion people and there already were 4 billion of us around then. But maths never was a strong trait of Christians. Must have something to with them being told that 3 = 1.

Perhaps, although I would think humans would still have an advantage over AI in ChicaGO, OsweGO, and Whiskey-a-GO-GO.
