Do you keep any sabbath? This includes, but is not limited to, the Jewish Sabbath of Saturday.

I do rest on the seventh day. I call it a delight to do rest on the seventh day. For as the Lord created the heavens and the earth and all them that dwell therein, He rested on the seventh day and was refreshed. I also will do no work from sundown Friday, until sundown Saturday. Not me, not my servant or anyone within my gates.

I keep my feet from breaking the Sabbath, and doing as i please on the Lord's Holy Day.

And i am a well watered garden.

And when i die and they lay me to rest,
I'm gonna go to the place that's the best.

Go to the Place that's the best.

Peaceful Sabbath. :)

That was only typology of the real sabbath which is when God Himself rests.
That was only a commandment given by G-d Himself, that was only one of ten that made it onto the tablets.
Not a big deal.

When you refer to other Sabbaths besides the Jewish Sabbath on Saturday, where do you get the concept of these others from? How do the scriptures define the Sabbath? What was the purpose of the Sabbath and who was give the directive for the Sabbath, according to the biblical scriptures?

The sabbath breaker in the Old testament was to be killed.

And for good reason too. Anyone forcing there workers to never rest, that is pure evil.

Those folks who act like the God of the OT was a slave driver is so fare from the truth.

The command said the slave, the maid and even the donkey was to rest.

God was looking out for everyone. He knew they needed to have a break. To take care of themselves. So any masters who worked there slaves to burn out, God took that serious and demanded the death penalty.

Good rittens to the task masters.

Yes, as I use Sunday as a type of Sabbath whereas I try and avoid work and any shopping plus spend time at services and with family.

Well, many christians forsake Saturday for Sunday. As this is a forum dedicated to Abrahamic religion, it would include Baha'i and Islam. I do not know enough about those religions to tell whether they have a sabbath or not. I included the possibility of other sabbaths just in case.

Thank you for clarifying.

Who did God give the commandment to concerning keeping the Sabbath?

Who did God give the commandment to concerning keeping the Sabbath?

in the Torah, it's first documented in genesis 2:2. the commandment is in exodus 20:8-11. to answer "who" looking at exodus 20:2, it seems G-d was giving the commandment to those who were freed from egypt.

food for thought: i'm remembering a 2nd meaning of the hebrew word "mitzrayim" which is translated as "egypt" in exodus 20:2. i think it also means "restriction". if someone choses this translation instead of "egypt", the commandment is speaking to many more than just the souls who were freed in the exodus story. :)

edit: maybe it comes from Zohar Shemot 40A
edit edit: the 2nd translation is something i "remember". i just reviewed Shemot 40A in the english 5 volume zohar, and didn't see it there. so i could be remembering wrong. if there is interest, i will continue to search for a source supporting "mitzrayim" as possibly "restriction". but it may take time. forgive me. i stopped trying to memorize sources a long time ago because it slowed down my learning.
edit edit edit: maybe its from zohar parsha Bo?
edit edit edit edit: B"H for the "edit" button :) i'm thinking "mitzrayim" > "restriction" comes from chassidus based on the Zohar parsha Bo ( which is part of the book Shemot ) 40a from the words "show yourself free". googling "narrow straits" results is several seemingly reputable articles speaking about the 2nd translation of mitzrayim. but i still haven't found my source in writing where i learned it. my next stop researching this would be "overcoming folly" or the "tract on prayer" or the rebbe Rashab's TreeofLife OBM
