Saints in Washington called to vote against legislature

another email from an LDS friend at work

The Revised Code of Washington (RCW) currently states that marriage in Washington State is prohibited “When the parties are persons other than a male and a female” (RCW 26.04.020).

However, House Bill (HB) 1350, which would change that, is still pending in the Washington State Legislature. The digest for HB 1350 states:

“the state therefore has a strong interest in ending discrimination against otherwise qualified applicants for a civil marriage license, including discrimination on the basis of sex or sexual orientation of the applicants.”

Take a look at the entire bill which makes it very clear that its purpose is to legalize same-gender marriage.

I would suggest that we each contact our representatives in the Washington State House of Representatives to ask them to vote “no” on this measure. Perhaps we would like to push for an amendment to the Washington State Constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman? I think all eyes are on California to see what will happen there as a measure to what will happen here.

Very misleading title.

Just like the Yes on Prop 8 campaign.

There is no calling on of saints by anyone except yourself, and I hardly think you qualify as anyone in authority.

To what?

Be a bigot?

To try to convice the LDS members on this Forum that the Prophet knows what he is talking about.

This is the only place i encounter LDS members who are so twisted in thier views that they disregard prophetic council.

Every ward i have been to, every other forum i have been on. the members who have atitudes towards the prophets that you, Katzpur, Disney, Apex, and others have are but a very small minority.

I'll fully support the Prophet in doctrinal issues, but political issues are a completley different matter.

It's called council for a reason, if it was all so important to our salvation, it'd be a commandment.

Like I stated in another thread, people will say anything to make another person shut up.

How many times does the Lord have to ask for us to be told?

Come again?

Like I said.

Council does not equal commandment.

Political issues shouldn't be involved with the Church. When I attend Church, I go to be edified and uplifted, not to have political issues shoved down my throat.

MH, you're such a proponent for following the church, why don't you following this?

Voting choices by Latter-day Saints, like all other people, are influenced by their own unique experiences and circumstances. As we move forward from the election, Church members need to be understanding and accepting of each other and work together for a better society.

You, sir, have demonstrated no degree of understanding or acceptance even going so far as to distinguish between "true" Mormons and not.

Bringing it into the Church building is "shoving" it down our throats. Church is not for politics. It's quite a simple concept that you are unable to grasp.

Do you not understand that this is a very serious and important issue? and that the Prophet counsels witht he Lord before making descisions like this?

Are you going to answer the question? or keep avoiding? Do you avoid it because you know you're wrong? that you're screwed?

Do you even understand what you are talking about?

Seriously, someone should beat you over the head with this.

Salt Lake Tribune

Latter-day Saints are free to disagree with their church on the issue without facing any sanction, said L. Whitney Clayton of the LDS Quorum of the Seventy. "We love them and bear them no ill will."

Do you understand what "without facing any sanction" means? It means that we will not be punished, nor will our temple recommends be taken away, nor will any blessings or ANYTHING for that matter. Nothing.

I'm glad you think so little of President Monson

Never said I thought little of him (you said it, not me;)), but you misunderstand a core doctrine. Our Prophets are no infallible men, never have been and never will me and are not at the current moment. To claim so, would to go against Church doctrine. You don't want to do that, now do you?

This is a great response to those who oppose the church's admonition to support Prop 8.

"Those who are not for us are against us".

"Who's on the Lord's side???"

Again, the "Parable of the Ten Virgins" comes to mind, 5 were ready 5 were not. It seems as if the church and the country is divided 50/50 on most issues.

Did you know that Prophets are fallible?
As men they are, but as prophets, seers and revelators for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they are not.
