can man be saved by merely reading the bible? Does the bible contain any such evidence of salvation through bible-reading?
Mind you this is all IMO; For the first question, no you can not. The Bible is an extremely small part of understanding something so complex; reading of sacred texts from every religion is needed for a more knowledgeable, logical, and truthful insight. For the second question, yes it does. One of the key factors in getting proper understanding from the Bible, you first need a bit of a history lesson. Knowing what has already happened but written in a prophetic way is one key of getting better "evidence" of salvation. Another thought to keep in mind is you are trying to establish a relationship with "someone" who is misunderstood greatly through-out time, with pieces of their personality being focused on through the scattering of belief systems and religious concept. One thing I found to work for me personally is when there is a wish to be made, or a prayer to be said, don't be afraid to ask for knowledge, just be sure you are ready for what you seek because you might find it and it may not be what you thought it would. Make no decision, unless before you make that decision you can honestly say you viewed it 100% at a 360 degree angle and do not incorporate personal or "taught" perceptions to it.:angel2:

Obviously, I can't speak to the Christian scriptures; but I think it would be ironic to suppose that reading the Hebrew Scriptures provided salvation, considering that Jews-- including the authors of those scriptures-- don't believe in Original Sin, Hell, or a doctrine of salvation.

Salvation I know is part of Hebrew Scripture, and I am also aware that Hell is not a Doctrine of Salvation, but could you tell me if the Secrets of Enoch are a part of Hebrew Doctrine?

If one is elect, God can bring them to a Knowledge of their Salvation through the scriptures. 2 Tim 3:15

And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

No, they are not. All that pseudepigraphical material is not in the Jewish canon, and most of it is not even among the few writings that informally are taken to be apocrypha by the tradition (we have no formal, recognized body of apocrypha).

But I assure you that salvation in the sense that Christianity uses the term-- to be cleansed of Original Sin, and to be assured a place in Heaven-- really is not part of Jewish thought. We have no doctrine of Original Sin, and there is not much in the way of universally fixed dogma concerning the afterlife, the World To Come (as close as we get to having a Heaven), and what does and does not get one into or keep one out of the World To Come.

Only Christ actually saves, however, one can come to a Knowledge of their salvation by reading the scriptures, of course, as The Spirit reveals it to them and leads them into all truth.
