Have any of y'all heard of Samuel Morris. I just read a book on him and he has a pretty awesome testimony. He was the son of the Kru (a tribe in Liberia) cheif. When the Grebos (another tribe) attacked they took him as a pawn. The cheif and his tribe were required to bring a present each month but could never bring enough. Sammy (his name then was Kaboo) was beat with poisonous thorns from time to time. Then the Grebo cheif would send one of his other captives back to the Kru, "Go tell your cheif what you saw" he would say. He became very weak from the ill treatment, his back burned from the poison. Finally the Kru could pay no more. They stopped bringing their goods to the Grebos, realizing they would never be satisfied. Kaboo was beat every day, tied to a cross tree where he was beat he realized that if conditions didn't change he would soon die, "What will happen to me when I die?" he thought. If he didn't die of sickness the Grebos had a worse fate in store for him, he would be buried up to the neck, then honey would be put on his face and he would be eaten by driver ants. Then one night there was a flash of light. "Get up Kaboo, run away," He heard the voice but didn't know who it was. The ropes fell off his arms and he became stronger, he ran of into the jungle. He wander for days following a river. The jungle was a dangerous place, there were many wild animals that could kill Kaboo. He slept in hollow logs and ate mangoes, bananas and snails. Finally he reached a coffee plantation where he saw another boy from his village. What are you doing here? Kaboo asked. I work here now he said. His friend got him a job, the plantation was owned by a former slave from America (Liberia), he was a Christian. The workers had off on the weekends and many of them went to church on Sunday. Kaboo went with his friend and learned about Jesus. He also got to know the missionaries there. Kaboo know realised that it was God who saved him from the Grebos. One lady who was teaching Sammy about the Holy Spirit said to him: "I've taught you all I know." "Well who taught you?" he asked. He learned it was Stephen Merrit, who was in New York. Sammy told them he was going to America. They were amazed, they told him he need money but that didn't bother Sammy. He headed to the shore and prayed he could catch a ride. He saw the captain of a tramp boat (used for trading, made alot of money by buying stuff cheap from natives.) and God told him that he would take Sammy to America. So Sammy asked him, he said no and warned Sammy that he would kick him. He layed on the beach all that day after the boat left praying. After they came back from some trading Sammy asked again and promised to work hard. Two of the captains men ran off so he decided to give Sammy a shot. As they headed for America there was alot of fighting and drinking. The men on the boat were from diffrent parts of the world so there was alot of prejudice. Sammys great testimony changed all that and by the time he got off at America the crew was like a family.
