Why did he choose to introduce magic tricks (material manifestions) in this institution?

# Does it help expedite emotional healing of his subjects?
# Does it help grow number of his devotees faster?
# Is it fair?

Depends how he used it. Was he taking money from the gullible, rich and stingy to build schools, for example? What were his motives?

Historically, as per observation, the hypothesis appears to match.

As I understand (could be wrong) he came from a theatrical/magic family/background...knew the tricks, knew they would impress the gullible...dust manifested for common folk...gems and Rolex's for the poerful/influential....it worked.

Not if they had been previously wounded by trickery/deception and subsequently saw through Baba's tricks.

# Does it help grow number of his devotees faster?

Without doubt...they flocked to see the divine magic show.

# Is it fair?

No. No matter what else was done/achieved it is a base deception.
