Will it happen? Will the UK go back to being separate states? I personally wouldn't mind if this happened.

The press seems to think so. Which makes it rather more likely.

Unlike with this Brexit affair, I never took a side on that one the first time around; despite my heritage, it's not really my business what modern Scotland decides to do.

I have Scottish heritage too, 1/4. I don't really care what Ecosse does, though.

By the way you Scots, don't forget to hand over those nuclear submarines before you rebuild Hadrians Wall. :p

The Union was always a marriage of convenience. The referendum result was just another example of how the Scots and the English see the world differently.

You have the same problem is all our politics. In the 1970s the English got Labour governments they'd voted against on the strength of Scots votes. In the 1980s the Scots got Conservative governments they'd voted against and whinged about it. So they got their own Parliament, but they still wanted to right to vote on English laws!

In my opinion, they're a bunch of self-obsessed narcissists. Let them go!

Hopefully the Scots do leave. It's not right for their wishes to be ignored when they overwhelmingly voted to stay. Northern Ireland should rejoin Ireland, as well. Shame on the English if they choose to be hypocritical about this.

Did Westminster have to approve the first Scottish referendum?
Yes they did. They didn't foresee how close it would be of course, I highly doubt they would make the same mistake again, and more importantly many MPs will gawk at the gall of the SNP wanting to hold another independence referendum just a few years after the first one. I don't see it making it through the UK Parliament. Alex Salmond said before the result that the referendum would settle the question for a generation. They seem to have conveniently forgotten that bit. I doubt the Tory MPs will let them forget.

I think the Scots are more likely than not to remove themselves from the UK, especially if they get any indication from the EU that they would be interested in having them. Staying in the EU was the main reason two years ago why they voted not to leave the UK.

It depends on how bad people want it. I doubt the Tories have the stones to block it if their feelers are telling them it is a genuinely popular motion. And let's be fair, it's hardly a massive difficulty organising a vote. They could object to the cost but I'm sure Scotland could pay for its own referendum. Other than that there don't seem to be grounds for opposition that I can think of.

That said I doubt most people really care. I don't and I was gung-ho, give me Scottish independence now please, first time around. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Remember the good old days when Alex Salmond would boast about the North Sea Oil and how it would drive an independent Scotland's economy. I wonder what they'll say now regarding economics.
