Self-immolation

This monk burns himself alive and remains perfectly still as the Flames engulfed his flesh. It's amazing what the human mind is capable of.

What motivates Buddhist monks to bury themselves alive and be burned alive and starve themselves to death? What motivates Christians to desire to be tortured to death by non-christians? What is it that motivates Muslims to want to blow themselves up? Whatever it is, it's a powerful force!

I was going to add Jews but Jews are too busy influencing the world... running the media, running the banks, and writing bestsellers that are best seller year after year after year...Jews choose to live and be productive. They also have a lower suicide rate than Christians and Muslims...

Don't forget their disproportionate amount of Nobel Prizes!

Indeed its what causes me to read your posts regardless. I already know it's going to be painful But I do it anyway.

I don't know of any Christians who want to suffer or be tortured.
If, however, one is faced with a situation giving one no choice, what can be done? Surely, abdicating one's faith is not the answer. There are principles that may not be given up.

In Hitler's regime, I read that one thing that was done to some was to involve them in unspeakable things because once they had committed said unmentionable things, they would do anything to anyone. Someone mentioned how in China some are forced to be cannibals. I don't know if this is true. I hope it isn't because if it is, China's future is going to be horrible.

To me this is the Buddhist equivalent to "Here, hold my beer...".

I've studied the lives of saints. Many of them longed for and prayed to be martyred. Many of them sought out martyrdom.

Feel free to enlighten me. (Paul wanted release from this life to be with Christ, but did he want pain? I don't think he wanted pain.)

So, I admit that the goal of a saint is to be released from this existence so as to obtain the next one, but pain, not desirable imo.

Self immolation...or any kind of immolation sounds horribly painful.
It would be best to not survive such a thing. I've known burn victims.
They describe long lasting agonizing pain.

I saw a video years ago where the monk was burning himself alive and police put him out with a fire extinguisher... I think it was in China

I don't think they like the pain, but some of the saints sought out martyrdom. Saint Anthony saw the corpses of martyrs and it motivated him to join the franciscans, Saint Francis of Assisi went to the Holy Land to preach to the Muslims hoping he would be martyred, saint Ignatius of Antioch longed to be eaten by lions and got his wish.

I do not desire to die soon, because in Heaven there is no suffering. I desire to live a long time because I yearn to suffer much for the love of my Spouse."
