I know you're old enough to know that Democrats weren't always like this. There was the old guard - FDR, JFK, LBJ, and even centenarian Jimmy Carter, the last of his breed. Dukakis' ride on a tank in 1988 was more like a funeral procession for the old Democratic Party, while Bill Clinton gave it a new face in 1992. The Reagan-Bush victories in the 80s pushed the Democrats in a different direction, as their old liberal ideas just weren't reaching the hearts and minds of the corporate executives and bankers they needed to win elections.

The Democrats sold out. Clinton pushed them into reversing their position on NAFTA (which the Republicans unanimously supported). Yet now, it's the Democrats who are fanatical supporters of free trade, while the Republicans are turning against it. The Democrats have turned into what Republicans used to be in the 1980s, while the Republicans have been struggling to reinvent themselves because the Democrats were copying them too much. Trump has been the result of that, although they went a bit overboard with that.

All of what we're seeing these days is the result of too much entrenchment and corruption in politics.

I agree more than once I've heard the saying and warning that this isn't your grandfather's Democrat what we have today.

I remember Democrats known as blue dogs and they were actually respectable party with a lot of good ideas and plans for the country and then one day, that all changed to what we have now.

I'm grateful for Robert Kennedy Jr for standing up like that and telling the truth of the true nature of what this party has become and even he called for unity between both Democrats Republicans like in the old days , but I think that even his words and his family line well versed in politics will fall on deaf ears.
