A USAF general has refused to rule out aliens as a possible source of the recent downed UFOs:

WASHINGTON, Feb 12 (Reuters) - The U.S. Air Force general overseeing North American airspace said on Sunday after a series of shoot-downs of unidentified objects that he would not rule out aliens or any other explanation yet, deferring to U.S. intelligence experts.

Asked whether he had ruled out an extraterrestrial origin for three airborne objects shot down by U.S. warplanes in as many days, General Glen VanHerck said: "I'll let the intel community and the counterintelligence community figure that out. I haven't ruled out anything."

VanHerck said the military was unable to immediately determine the means by which any of the three latest objects were kept aloft or where they were coming from.

"We're calling them objects, not balloons, for a reason, [sic] said VanHerck.

Ruling out aliens? Senior U.S. general says not ruling out anything yet

What do you think? Are these from aliens or China/another US rival?

It seems professional not to overstep into the domain of the intelligence community, but he should have probably known that his comments would be fuel for conspiracy theories.
It's obviously not aliens and in his position he shouldn't have said something so absurd and stupid.

It won't be the first time a foreign power has sent balloons over America...

The general is wrong for not ruling it out. The "journalists" are wrong for asking such a yellow journalistic question. The fools in the public that lap up this tripe are wrong for being gullible simplistic idiots.

This world has gone stupid.

I don't think downing an alien craft is possible with our primitive tech vs an advanced and superior civilization. Supposing one is around today buzzing the earth.

What if the alien civilization were even more primitive than ours but could only reach us due to a technological anomaly?

In a god if the gaps sort of way that requires the gaps be blown open.
Well, they should have asked her what the probability is of being aliens, not wherter they could have been aliens.

however, if I had been the general, i would have said that aliens are not excluded. In the same way Superman is not excluded. So, that that maybe even the press can understand that.

In a god if the gaps sort of way that requires the gaps be blown open to have them to insert aliens.

I wonder why aliens would only send UFOs to the US. One would think an intelligent extraterrestrial lifeform would scan multiple parts of the planet, if not all of it, not just the US and, most conveniently, while it was engaged in a geopolitical, economic, and industrial rivalry with China.

If they had anything here it would mean they are so far ahead of us with technology they wouldn't need balloons as their satellite technology would likely make James Webb look our earliest and crudest attempts at making a telescope.

That’s not actually what he said. He was asked if they could be alien and replied he was going to await the intelligence reports before ruling anything out. That’s a bit different. He does NOT think they are little green men, obviously.

In Carl Sagan's book Contact the American scientists had to keep reminding the American government that the Message was not intended for America but the entire world given the broadcast could be picked up by even amateurs listening in around the world.

No single technology would enable space
travel over such great time & distance.

Perhaps an alien civilization has its entire focus on space travel to the detriment of all other technology, much like Kim Jong-un and his obsession with nukes.

Of course, I find it much more likely that aliens either don't exist or could never reach us.

I think his response was logical. Unfortunately, it's inevitably going to be used as "evidence" by conspiracy theorists and fringe fearmongers.
