The landlord ok to have the shoes in the foyer. The foyer it is not a part of the hallway, no one by us uses the end of the hallway, the shoes are not blocking anything and the shoes are no a fix items so they are not a fire hazord. No shoes rack are allowed in foyer.

My question is for my religious belive: I do not bring the shoes inside my home, and I want to know what you may know about people like me that do not bring the shoes inside the home because of religious believes. I am a buddist.

Could having a shoe rack by the front door solve the problem? IE. Remove shoes, enter flat, put shoes on elevated rack.

If this is not a reasonable solution, it would be interesting to hear your answers. No slight on your beliefs is intended.

since 1999 I left our shoes outside the door because of my religious belive and with the landlord ok. Now the landlord is saying that they are a fire hazord. the shoes are in a foyer in front of my front door and not in the hallway and no one passe the hallway to go to their apartment because my apt. is the last one in the hall. i dont think this is right, please advise on what I should do on this issue
Beat your landlord up with your shoes and move.

I would have to see the hallway, but i think he is legally obliged to keep the hall clear. It would be unfair for someone to trip over your shoes and die in a fire for the sake of your myth wouldn't it? x

I voted "yes." It may have been OK in the past, but the fire marshall can change her mind as to what is a fire hazard, and it's not OK now.

It looks to me like having a shoe rack inside your place would solve the problem.

Just pound a nail in the door and hang them by the shoelaces. However someone could trip and end up with a nail in there head. Ughhhh!:banghead3

Hi anninnyc,

Please feel free to ask questions, if you have any. You might like to check out our article with links for our newer members; from there, there is also a link to the forum rules which you ought to look at.

As concerns your query, I would say that your best bet is to ask your landlord to explain why the shoes are a fire hazzard. Prhaps the regulations have changed, and he would be in trouble with the fire Department....I don't know, but I can't imagine that your landlord would do this just for no reason.:)

I imagine that you are muslim.

I reckon that the landlord has re-read the fire safety code and wants to conform with what it says i.e. no trip hazards. Just buy a shoe rack, nail it up in the foyer and put your shoes on that - problem sorted.

If no other people use your hallway... he must be thinking of your safety.
It would be wrong for him not too think about you... its his job.
Welcome to the forum also :D

I have no idea why your landlord has a problem with your shoes . { actually . there are too many possibilities ... do they smell ? ;) } . And I know nothing about the religious reasoning behind not taking shoes into the house . However , when one lives in a complex , one has to take other peoples concerns into account , no matter how unreasonable they can seem .

Is there a way that you could build a box or closet type thing , just inside your door , and consider it not to be a part of your house ? The foyer is a public area , so your landlord does have the right to govern it .
