woulden't work.
Charities are in competition with each for our cash.
They are usually one topic interest groups and not equally bothered about the others.
They get more out of us in dribs and drabs than they would with one lump sum.
Not many people have symphathy for all charaties and would not want any of their money to go to some of them.

I agree with Terry - just look at the number of harrowing adverts on television - mind you, having said that, if all the ones who concentrate on erelief work could merge.......no, probably wouldn't work anyway.
No, because there are different charities focusing on different relief efforts and for certain causes. More choices allow people to pick the charities that best suit their generousity. People like to know their money is going for a specific cause, and not to a general organization that can use it however they choose to use it.
As nice a concept as it seems to be, it would create a logistical nightmare. Many charities already have disagreements among their administrators as to how to utilize the donations they received. I can't even begin to imagine the nightmare of one big charity trying to divide the funds.
Another problem would be the level of administrative costs. Some charities have very low costs so most of the money they raise actually goes to the cause they promote. I'm sure these folks have no desire to get lumped in with the more wasteful ones.
