Should America be Run by a Political Minority or a Political Majority?

BSM1

What? Me worry?
Or should a political party that received a majority of the vote from a very, very small section of the country govern the majority of the country? Re: Electoral College

So you're in favor of minority rule?

I support our representative system of fairly electing someone who governs for the entire country, not just a select few. If, in your opinion, that means the minority rules then so be it. And please don't use the "Democracy" card. The government was never meant, nor was it set up, to be a"democracy".

Do you think you'd be in favor of minority rule if it were not your party doing the ruling? Do you have principles? Or do you just believe in your own party?

What's fair? Do you think gerrymandering is "fair"? Do you think the electoral college is "fair"? Do you think voter suppression is "fair"? Do you think refusing to register to vote 50,000 mostly black voters, as recently happened in Georgia, is "fair"?

Should a political party that represents a minority of the people, rather than a majority of the people, run the country?

What if the party came to power through underhanded tactics?
I am in favor of further separation in representation. I do not believe that either current political party is capable of representing America. While preserving a federal over local precedent, I think favor should be given toward passing local rather than federal rules and efforts to assert federal regulation should be viewed with skepticism and caution. The federal regulation that is passed should be designed to broadly give guidelines allowing for local definition, or to serve to remedy problems that cannot be solved on a local scale.

I am not sure if this answers ypur question, but that one party or group can have so much control is disconcerting. Neither the majority nor the minority should control the whole.

Are you in favor of the principle of majority rule, or are you opposed to it? Pretty simple question, don't you think?

I would hope anyone posing such a question would realize context matters.

I don't believe it does matter in this case. But why do you? And why won't you answer the question?

If you're against the principle of majority rule in at least some cases, then say so.

Let's show some guts here. If you're against the principle of majority rule in at least some cases, then say so.
Sure I am against the principle of majority rule in some cases and for it in others. That still doesn't really answer the question does it?

If you are asking if I am against making rules that disenfranchise people, I am. If you are asking if I am against gerrymandering, i am. What specifically are you asking? If it is just the principle of majority rule: It depends.

Depends what you mean by "run the country."

I think systems like the US's bicameral legislature, where Congress is apportioned by population and the Senate is apportioned equally to each state, is a good way to balance the right of the majority to make and modify the law while there's a check on powerful parts of the country using their weight to treat less populous parts of the country unfairly.

BTW: do you mean "majority" or "plurality?"

I am not a member of any political party, and, to answer your question, I would support the duly elected President of the United States even though I might not agree with his politics. To me, Obama was the worst president we have ever had politically, but I never wanted any harm to come to him, nor did I attack him personally (as a matter of fact I thought he was a funny and a very good father). The difference we're seeing today is that Trump is being attacked for his person and not his politics.

Gerrymandering is a two-headed snake that both parties use to their advantage. No, I think Gerrymandering is something that should be used sparingly if at all. Still it's not germane to your question.

The libertarian party should rule the country. The smarter party or group, whether that be minority or majority, is the one that should rule. That would be libertarian.
