I believe yes.

I think each person should have a personal relationship with God and keep it that way.

Sounds nice in theory, but when you have paths like Christianity and Islam which aggressively recruit new members, they have to get in your face abit.

Depends on what you mean by modesty or humility. I don't think they should intrude on other people, like street preachers. OTOH, I have absolutely no problem with people who advertise their faith via T-shirts, tattoos, bumper stickers, etc..

Good thread Phil! :)

I think overall people should be modest about the expression of their beliefs. Both lack of confidence and assertiveness can have bad reactions no matter how right you may be. Some people don’t catch this and refuse to adjust their style for the sake of perspicuity in relation to human behavior. But…sometimes showing lack of confidence or overly assertive [bold] is appreciated and preferred by some. I’d say this is a select few, but the most important thing in communication is being aware of what works with the person you are communicating with. I believe a person truly seeking to exchange thoughts and understanding will go out of his/her way to do this.

I think people are entitled to believe whatever they choose. But I'm also entitled to think they are barking mad and am in no way required to respect their opinion unless there is evidence to back it up. The important thing is to keep the dialogue open for now. Once communication breaks down, it becomes "Us" and "Them," "Freedom-Loving Americans" and "Godless Atheist Communists." "The Faithful" and "Heretics." And then the intolerance grows. Keep the lines of communication open, even if you think someones ideas are completely daft. Who knows, maybe you'll even crack open a mind or two eh? XD

Depends what exactly you mean by modesty and humility. If by modest you mean people shouldn't be confident that they know the truth, then no, people should not be modest. When two religions conflict with each other, specifically on how a person is saved, then obviously someone is wrong.

Do you think people who are confident they know the truth, but believe something totally different than you should be modest and keep their mouths shut?

No, if they did then how could I know what to say to prove them wrong?

That's very true. If only Christians should talk about their religion, how will anybody tell them that they're wrong! Thank you for reminding me :D

common sense...

A and B

A says "my belief is the truth. your belief is the very essence of evil and you are bound to go to hell unless you follow my belief becoz my book says so"

B says "my belief is this and that .... while from my understanding your believe is that and this which is totally different"

which one would you rather prolong your conversation with? how efficient are these two when conveying their belief to others? A or B?

i would choose B so therefore i believe we must be humble. and no Booko i dont mean i voted for "i'm more humble than you!" :D

Great question. It depends on the situation...

On this forum it doesn't seem to go over too well...

...but just as a Pagan believer would like to be heard so would a Christian believer...

But Pagans usually are able to do with out telling others they are wrong in their religious beliefs.
