Should We Have Beliefs?

There are a lot of things that we think we know, but we really don't. I guess this is a clicheed example, but my best friend's father was stricken with a brain tumor four days before our high school graduation. He was given 6 months, maximum, to live. That was based on the best that the doctors *knew*. But, three and a half years later, he's alive and well. What we know (personally, and what the "experts" know) is always changing and evolving, so there's no reason to place it above what we believe...in my opinion :)

Should We Have Beliefs?

Yes, I SAY!! Believe this, believe that! Believe anything, believe everything. Believing is one of the few things that are free and there are so many things to believe in our physical existence. Believe it all! Collect them!! There is no limit to how many we can carry or how many we can adorn ourselves with. Yes, believe in believing! We all have the ability to believe! Have too many? Shed them like old skin. Collecting to make a set? GO right ahead. Beliefs help define who a person is. There is nothing to lose in believing. New beliefs are coming up every day. Don’t abuse your beliefs and don’t believe blindly. Believe everything you hear, believe everything you read, see and touch.

BELIEVE EVERYTHING, I say! BUT…

ACCEPT NOTHING UNTIL YOU HAVE PROVEN THIS BELIEF TO BE A TRUTH OR AN UNTRUTH.

We have to have beliefs, though. There's too much in life we can't know for sure that we still have to deal with. I mean, you think about it, even believing we shouldn't have beliefs is a belief, isn't it?

Having beliefs/faith can get people through struggling times that simply relying on yourself can't handle. Sometimes you have to cry out to a higher power for aid.

There is nothing that exists whose basic attributes do not exist. Even unicorns exist in some way. There are horses, and there are animals with horns. Even though they exist mostly in stories, they still exist in that way. And even though they have not been proven to exist in the material world, does not prove indubitably that they may not be found in the future. There may be very little chance of that happening, but none can argue that there is absolutely NO chance. We of course don't know. Arguing that something does not exist solely because there is no proof of it yet, becomes a simple logical fallacy. To say that the probability of it existing is extremely low, next to nothing is valid. But still in the end, we do not know indubitably.
