Should you always look for the good in others?

I try, i'll admit, but it can be a little difficult, especially when the people you try to help keep wronging you.

Actually I try to separate what people DO from who/what they ARE. If they keep wronging me, that is something they DO; what they ARE is still a human being with the potential to become enlightened. I am not required to like them, or want to spend time with them, though.

Of course the more they DO things like that, the harder it will be for them to become enlightened; karma/cause & effect functions regardless of belief or lack thereof.

Should you always look for the good in others? Definitely yes. Since people are the sum of their actions, what they do, so it's only prudent to limit exposure to people who wrong us. That doesn't mean we should stop looking for the good in them if/when they see the errors of their ways and decide to start acting right.

I would say that if you don't try to find things you like in everyone then you would be a pretty hard person to like also

There is good and evil in everyone, whether it be a thought or an action.
Finding the good is sometimes just a more difficult task, so look at it as an adventure!:woohoo:

Looking at this another way------ Are we expected to get to know every one or just those in our own circle.
I have no desire to look for the good in say Hitler. His mother no doubt thought him a very good boy.

On the other hand we should definitely look for the good in those we actually have dealings with and especially our friends. But neither should we turn a blind eye to their faults. We all, in one way or another influence those around us, and we should if we are Christian set as good example as we can.

Yes, for there is always the chance there is a spark of good left and you can turn them around.

I have a tendancy to always look for the good in others. Sometimes I look to hard. :banghead3

I agree with Turk here. I too always look for the good in others and sometimes look too hard. I have a tendency to only want to see the good things and then the bad comes up and bites me in the butt. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses.:(
